First of all I would like to say that gambling is illegal. Everything that I am saying is speaking in hypothetical terms.

OK I got the disclosure out of the way. I have a friend that has had dealings with two bookies. One bookie the guy is assessible, keeps great records and the lines are resonable close to the ones in Vegas. The problem is he is slow in paying. So "I" I meant he went to another bookie that pays on time. The problem is "I" I meant he calls the bookie gets the voice mail. He keeps bad records, meaning he miss games that he needs to payout, but he never miss the games that the player lose and the juice is high. The lines are larger. So this led me to ask what it the right and wrong ways of dealing with a bookie? This is for entertainment purposes only of course.

thats right online is the safest way to go, even if there is a few fees here and there the bonases make up for those. i will never go back to a local book. and the best thing is you cant bet what you dont have online.

One of the problems when using a local bookie is if the local is a small time bookie. Winning bettors have to wait for the losing bettors to pay up. Most small time books don't like to dig into their own pockets to pay off. They're used to collecting not paying.

Most online books reimburse the fees. I recently opened a new account at Bet Jamaica. They reimbursed my wire transfer fee by adding it to my balance. In addition they offered a 20% bonus.

Using locals has some advantages. At the same time there's more disadvantages including limited hours and the hassle of having to meet the book each week for payoffs or payouts.

that is true. i use a local and he is big into it. he only has about 30-40 ppl who he takes action from. But he takes wagers from $50 to thousands on games. He is 100% stand up i've never had an issue paying him and never had an issue getting paid from him, not once in 10yrs. I settle @ +/- 200 either up or down per week. I guess i consider myself lucky when it comes to dealing with a local

I also have a great local guy. If we are off by an immaterial amount, he almost always concedes, or we split the difference. He is always accessible, never changes his lines and allows me to leave voice messages on his answering machine. It's great. He inherited the business from his father, who was also a stand-up guy.

I got rid of my shitty local, dude kept horrible records and would forget my winning wagers while never forgetting a loser.

Offshore is the way to go, only problem is they dont take credit like a local does. So if you have the money, there is no reason to not open an account with the site sponsors. Now if you dont have the money, either put up with the shit from your local guy, or quit gambling. Sounds rude, but unfortunately its the way it is.

I have a new local, he is a relative so i dont worry about getting paid. But, he doesnt take teasers, no baseball, and has limited times i can wager.

                    exactly ...

I have always said you must find a legit book .. there are so many outlaw books out there that you can hook up with but you will be lucky if you do not have trouble with them down the road somewhere ..

If you and book agree to meet up on Tuesdays and he stalls you at all ... If his figure is constantly off in his favor ... if he asks you for a figure first .. if he does not want to give you a figure on a daily basis ... RUN ,... do not walk away from this guy ...

                    JMHO guys ..

I don't know. IMO Betting with a relative is asking for trouble.

IMO the offshores not extending any credit is an advantage. It helps minimize betting over your head and risking money one really doesn't have. It also helps chasing loses. You can't bet what you don't have.

If you don't have the money either join a contest like Wayne's contest for $50. You get a whole season of capping and with the thrill of betting for a minimal amount.

Another option is fantasy football. I've never played FF but there's lots of excitement when playing.

I've been using the same local since I started betting 13 years ago. I have never had a problem. He even gives me back 15% of losses.

Frank i agree that you cant get burned on an offshore cause you cant wager what you dont have.
