No excuses for sure, but without Manny team is not the same.
I am not a doctor and don't know if he should/could be playing or not;Francona says no and that is what counts.
I think they may be counting on "making some hay" with the DRays this weekend-not a certainty by any means.
It will be demoralizing at least for me if they finish second, but if somehow they win a WS(seems to be a dream right now considering they way they are playing), then where they finished in regular season won't mean shit.

manny hurts for sure....but you can not do better than 10-11 without him against teams that are below average teams......
that is why this experimenting shit is for the birds....
We think we can just turn on a faucet when we make the WC.....i will bet against it.....

The Sox have all but clinched a playoff spot. It's possible the Sox don't truly care about winning the division. After all, look what happened last year. No one gave the Cards a chance of winning a playoff series let alone the World Series. The same with the Tigers. After their 'almost' collapse down the stretch NO ONE gave them a chance vs. the Yanks. They went to the WS.Originally posted by TwoTonTonyWith all the talk i heard today i knew the Sox have given up the division......It is called the "law of attraction"....If you set limitations for yourself.....you will achieve them.....
I just could not disagree more with this approach....to me it is cowardly....
#1 - Buckholtz pulled after 4 hits and 64 pitches
#2 - We are praising Toronto pitching now....Are you fucking kidding me.....
#3 - Francona will start pulling starters soon....

i agree frank. sox have basically locked up the WC regardless. my only arguement is why just tank and lose games. I mean whats the point. i watched the past 6 games and these 3 in toronto its like they werent even trying. now that is sad2013 NCAA POD Record

Dimer, I don't think the are intentionally tanking the games. However, I haven't watched any of their games. When you have that big of a lead for most of the season a team can become somewhat complacent. Their mindset right now is "Let's get the season over with and start playing real games".Originally posted by 10DimeBryi agree frank. sox have basically locked up the WC regardless. my only arguement is why just tank and lose games. When they blew out the Yanks in the 2nd game of the series last weekend it was a good wake up reminder that they can beat the Yanks and beat them easily.
We'll see in the coming weeks.

I agree Dimer...sometimes you have to lose the battle so you can win the war. So they sit Manny, keep sitting Youk, sit down Okajima...they need them in October. And I guarantee with Okajima out, you are going to see more of Gangne in big spots. Tito is going to continue to throw him out there in key situations and try his best to get him back to where he was prior to the trade. It may cost him a gmae or two more but they have to try to get him right. And the alternatives are not much better. If it means losing the division, winning the Wild Card and they are healthy come Oct, it will be disappointing but I'll take it.Originally posted by 10DimeBrywell i dont think they are trying to lose. i just think they are like "whatever" @ this point. they could have easily swept NYY last week. and how they lost 3 straight in toronto is beyond me. shit halladay didnt even pitch. the sox scored 6 total runs in 3 games. that is hidious.Three Jack's Record http://www.bettorschat.com/forums/sh...10#post1323910

I think as has been said before in this thread and in others, what happens the last month of the season (and hell during the whole season) doesn't matter come Oct 1. Hot teams, floundering teams, coasting teams, etc. have all won the world series, or lost in the playoffs. Last year Detroit flounders in and BAM, Verlander, Rogers, Bonderman kill the Yanks. Then in the WS a team who most thought shouldn't even get there wins it.
If we are taking the Sox/Yanks here, can anyone see Detroit going like 8-2 and knock of the Yanks or Boston, (these two would have to go like 2-7 for that to happen), doubt it.
I really think it all doesn't matter. All that matters is in or out. Unless you are the Yanks and you really don't want to face the Angels in round one because of the history there.
I think what will prove interesting is the teams that have to make a "decision" on whether they want the short or long (day wise) series and how that effects who they put on the roster (13 pitchers, 12 pitchers, etc.) and how they set up their rotation based upon these two formats. So let's say that Boston wins the division, will the want the condensed series, or the one where game 4 I believe would be on eight days rest.2012 - 2013 NCAAF
