I like a lot of plays this week but don't have one strong enough for a 2*. The Kansas and Mich State picks were posted earlier in the week at the lines I list here.
1* Kansas -22
Kansas could win Big 12 North and scored 52 in each of its first two. Kansas destroyed Central Michigan which beat Toledo by 21 last week.
1* Tennessee +8
Two rather inexperienced teams but Tennessee QB Ainge has looked very good and Florida's pass defense got lit up last week by Troy, of all teams. I look for a very close game and want the points.
1* Michigan State -10
Mich State may be a top three team in the Big 10 and Pitt may be a bottom three team in the Big East. D'Antonio has improved Mich State defense and the offensive talent is gelling. Pitt plays its first road game in a hostile environment.
1* Navy -7
I thought Navy played rather well in its 17-point loss last week to Rutgers. Navy, as usual, has a great running game and Ball State has a lousy run defense. Navy should be very fired up in its first home game.
1* Nebraska +10
This is only USC's second game of the year and they didn't look all that great against Idaho. Nebraska is coming off a big road win. Nebraska QB Keller actually was a starter at Arizona State and is in his fifth year of Div-I football and is thriving in Callahan's west coast offense. I think he's just as good as overrated Booty. USC may win but 10 points is a lot against an improved team playing at home.
1* UNLV +17 1/2
Everybody thought UNLV was shot when its QB went down but the backup has playued very well. UNLV had Wisconsin on the ropes with four minutes left last week and Wisconsin is better than Hawaii. Hawaii gave up 44 to Lou Tech last week and is in a bad scheduling mess and they spent the week in Houston rather than flying back to the islands. Now, Jones has to keep them out of the casinos. Take the points.
Opinions only:
Kentucky
Central Florida
(I came real close to making both opinions * rated plays but six is enough for one week.)
NFL:
I'll write this up later
