  • I once paid a guy for a weekend of picks

    here is what happened:

I was 18 years old, just getting started in the betting business. I had a deposited $100 into my brand new sportsbook account, I was so excited, and thought it was going to be so easy because i knew a lot about sports (not a thing in the world about handicapping). I remember, 7 years ago, Ga. Tech vs. Maryland, thursday night football. I had some friends over to watch the game, while previously that day my buddy and I were searching on the internet trying to find out what a "handicapper" was and if we should take the dog or the favorite and just doing research on the game, or what we thought was research. We were entering phrases on google about sports betting and seeing what we could find out about the game that night, while we kept stumping accross different sports handicapping sights, finally we clicked on one. It read exactly (i can remember it so well) "Thursday night football lock of the year, free, call the number below" (if you ever see this quote, run) I was young a new, so I did. I received a sales person, Jason Forbes he called himself. He proceeded to talk me in to paying him $300 for the parlay (Wait a minute, i just deposited 100 into my new account and was going to play very small bets just for fun and to have a little action on the game, now i have given someone 300, and really didn't even have it to give, he said the magic phrase"i'm going to make you rich") He gave Maryland and under for the parlay, at the time i didn't even know what that meant. I bet it though and followed his instructions. It won! We felt like this guy really had "inside information." I was now up 260. The next day he advised me to take the Friday night football game, Tulsa +6, and put it all on them, i did, and won. Wow this guy is my best friend,i'm now up 500 in two days. Im not ever going to get a job this is so easy, he is really going to make me rich! Saturday he called and gave me a couple of bets, he called them "if win" bets. 500 (my entire account) on tennessee-3, if win, 1,000 on arizona +34.5, if win 2000 on michigan -13, if win 4,000 on texas -7.5.....Oh my god they all won!! This is the easiest and greatest business in the world!, i said. He called monday and acted as if i owed him something, i replied, i don't have the money yet, it is in my sportsbook account...he wanted 1,000. Well, he did win me the money so i withdrew a dime and western unioned it to him. He advised me to put everything(7 dimes...remember i only started with 100) on Green Bay-7 vs. Vikings. It won, this guy was hotter than a roman candle! Im now up 14,000. At this point he wanted another 1,000, so i have now given him 2,300 total. My account was sitting at 13,000. I was instantly rich in 4 days! Thursday he advised me to put 6.5 dimes on Utah-6 and 6.5 dimes on Oklahoma -17.5. They both lost and my account was at 0. Now, the moral of the story, I have paid this person 2,300, at this point im down 400 of my own money and i have nothing to show for it, while he did not care at all, he made a lot of money in a weeks time.

So, my advice to this point is do not ever pay someone for betting advice, it's a streaky business, and do not ever put your whole account on any game, it's just not wise. These "handicappers" probably give one side of the game to me, and the other side of the game to you, ensuring they will make money and make someone happy. I was rich for one week and was just to young and new to know any better. Pick these games yourself, use your own knowledge and wisdom. I'm sure many of you reading this have been in the same shoes i was in before. You must be careful in this business as it will kill you if you are not...Just a story from someone who has lived high's and low's. I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Angle- Well, I guess you had to find out the hard way...I have been dabbling in sports betting for over 30 years, and let me tell you one thing that I have learned:
Vegas (or any sportsbook) doesn't lose.
If you want to stay solid and be able to win a little at this game, study the teams, the injury and weather reports, the stats and any other info you can find about the game you are betting...Put all that info under your hat, and than come to your best conclusion, and than bet 1/20th of your "play money" on that side/total.
If you win 56 % of the time ,you are doing good.

Just a question to think about... I would like everyone to reply

I posted the story about paying cappers yesterday, and i wanted to ask all of you a question, please do not take this the wrong way, im just trying to do a study on sports gambling.

How would you feel if the computer was taken away from you and you could no longer play these games, or your bookie shut down, or even worse, what if you were given an ultimatum and it was you could either have your wife and family or gamble; now i know most would say that is a stupid question because the family would be chosen, but really, think about it, what if we didn't bet on these games anymore, how would you feel, emotionally; how would this change your day, month,or year? Would you change friends, your daily habits, would you become less stressed and less up tight? I understand how our moods are effected directly by gambling. For ex., Your watching a baseball game and it's the 6th inning, your down 2 runs and not looking good. (At this point you are mad and may not be nice to your wife or family)However your team hits a 3 run shot to put you ahead the next inning (Now you seem like a different person, much more alive, might even call a friend to catch up or ask your wife how her day was), while the very next inning your opponent hits 3 straight doubles and a single to score 3 runs.(Now you feel like an emotional wreck and nothing like you did the inning before, if you were still on the phone with your buddy you would now find a reason to let him go, and feel like you really don't care how your wife's day really was).

The point is that i understand this business is an emotional roller coster, what if all of this was taken away from us, could never do it again because of an ultimatum or because of a personal decision, How would we change?... This is not my situation at all, im just doing a study that i can relate to, please answer to this and really think about it. I thank you and hope you have a great day

I think if you take your losses out on your family or friends, then your betting more money than you should.I feel like myself and most on this site that gambling is a hobby. Some people put hundreds of dollars a week into racing on fri. nights or airplanes, old cars, motorcycles and the list could go on and on.I put my extra time into studying sports and betting them and maybe get something back. But if not,its not the end of the world. Now, I know thats not true for everyone but thats how I look at it.Good luck with the study.

def a good read... i called one of them lock lines 1 time and the guy wanted my credit card # i told him to beat it... they called for a few days straight until i cursed them out and told them never to call. it worked. your better off picking your own games. you got a better shot at winning and these touts love giving out 2 sides to the same game this way they will have winners no matter what.... they figures its a 50/50 shot either way... this is what this site is for... TO HELP EACHOTHER WIN MONEY!!!!!!
