  • Kevin Everett - injury not looking good

Damn...sucks to have the season start off with something like this - let's hope there is a miracle waiting.....

The Buffalo Bills' Kevin Everett sustained a "catastrophic" and life-threatening spinal-cord injury and his chances of regaining a full range of body motion are very small, an orthopedic surgeon said Monday.

"A best-case scenario is full recovery, but not likely," Dr. Andrew Cappuccino said, one day after performing a four-hour operation on the player. "I believe there will be some permanent neurological paralysis. ... A full neurological recovery was bleak, dismal."

Very sad to see this. I hope he makes it through.

They said he tried to get up??? i just read that....I wonder if the collapse back down caused more damage....You are not supposed to move at all.....I saw the tail end and saw his body quivering and it made me sick. This poor guy. I wish him the best. I had a friend who had this same diagnosis and after 6 months was walking and had use of 1 arm (the other is very weakend and atrophies) but i am praying for his recovery.

I would never let my child play football. These guys are just way too big and fast and the collisions are monsterous. I played IAA and i feel the injuries everyday. Back surgery, knee surgery, broken ekbow, ankle, hand...numerous fingers and concussions. Some of these guys who suffer repeated concussions are finding their brain activity to be similar to Alzheimers patients. (i.e Watters and Chris BEnoit...i know he was a wrestler but suffered concussions)....It is just not worth it. I do not care how rare it is....

I read today that his injury is similar to that of Mike Utley with the Lions in 1991. Hopefully medical science and/or the man upstairs can bring him back to where he can function normally in the real world.

          What a bummer.

Every so often we get a reminder how dangerous and vilent the game can be. Always sad to see one of the GLADIATORS go down and not get up. Hopefully he will regain a major degree of his health. very sad to see this type of story!

There were a ton of injuries to players all over the league this weekend and a lot of them were season-ending. This is much worse, but what can be done...??? The players keep getting bigger, faster and stronger as technology and medicine continue to advance.

This makes me sick to my stomach. My prayers go out to Kevin and his family. You really don't know how violent of a sport football is until you put your helmet and pads on.

I was always good at flag football but when I put on the pads freshman year of high school I realized the sport wasn't for me. I sticked to baseball.
