I opened the season last weekend by playing all favorites with wins by Georgia, Oregon and Iowa and an ugly loss w/Texas. This weekend, I'm on dogs.
2* Washington +3 1/2 (-115)
This line is very unrealistic and is a total overreaction to Boise's win over Oklahoma in last year's Fiesta Bowl. Washington is a decent team from the Pac-10, playing at home and coming off a crushing win on the road in Syracuse. I look for a straight up upset but the points are a major bonus for the home team. (With the line at +3 -105, I am buying the half point and laying the extra juice.)
1* Western Michigan pk
Indiana is the worst team in the Big 10 and its 55-7 win last week is misleading as Indiana State is terrible, even by Div 1-AA standards. Western Michigan is very strong at home and, in my opinion, is the best team in the MAC this year. They were overmatched last week at West Virginia (which might have the best offense in the country) but return home against an inferior opponent.
1* New Mexico State +7
Both teams are much improved this year but the New Mex State offense is going to be especially good in Chase Holbrook's third year as a starter. They only scored 35 last week against a 1-AA opponent but I think Mumme was playing it close to the vest prior to this big game and he was facing his former school which gave him a job when it looked like his scandalized coaching career was over. New Mexico has a great defense and State has a great offense and I think that results in a close game. The dog has done very well over the years in this in-state rivalry game.
