The White Sox were pounded by Boston in a four-game sweep that saw the Bosox outscore Chicago 46-7. Ozzie Guillen's troops could probably use a day off, but instead have to play a makeup game today against Tampa Bay. And while the D-Rays come in with the worst record in MLB, they didn't play like it in taking three straight from Oakland over the weekend behind a 33-run outburst. Tampa Bay Devil Rays at Chicago White Sox (-108, 9 ½)

It sounds funny but the Devil Rays are probably the last team the Chicago White Sox want to face right now.

Chicago is coming off a four-game sweep to the Boston Red Sox this weekend, getting out scored 46-7 over those contests. While Tampa Bay is definitely no BoSox, it did hang 33 runs on the Oakland Athletics during its four-game series in Florida.

"I think if you try, you can't play on this (terrible) level that we do,” White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen told reporters after Sunday’s 11-1 loss.

This one stop spot in the Windy City is a make-up game left over from three months ago. Talk about bad timing.

New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers (-113, 10 ½)

Everybody has a bad day here and there – even major league ace pitchers. But don’t tell that to Detroit Tigers starter Justin Verlander, who couldn’t excuse his seven-run, four-inning hiccup against the Cleveland Indians last Wednesday.

The hard-throwing right-hander frantically searched for the cause of his struggles and went to Detroit’s pitching coach Chuck Hernandez for help. Verlander spent the weekend analyzing past starts in the film room, in particular his no-hitter back in June.

He told the Detroit News that he realized he hasn’t been keeping his legs under him and pushing off the mound as much in recent efforts, which could explain why Verlander has lost some velocity on his fastball. Expect to see Verlander's familiar high-90s heat tonight in Detroit.

Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants (-130, +122)

Better late than never for Giants pitcher Barry Zito.

The lefty is finally looking like a guy that should get paid $10 million this season, posting a 1-1 record in his last three starts with an ERA of 2.14. Zito is a disappointing 9-11 this season and has struggled with a 4.74 ERA.

"He's a different pitcher right now," manager Bruce Bochy told MLB.com. "He's got a chance to finish obviously in double digits, but with 13, 14 wins. You look back on the season, I think that's pretty good considering what tough outings he's had."

Zito has a career ERA just over 3.00 against the Rockies. San Francisco is 3-1 this season when Zito gets the start versus Colorado.
