Hot
Josh Beckett (Boston Red Sox) - The Red Sox ace will try to earn his major league-leading 16th win tonight against the Chicago White Sox. As good as Beckett has been at Fenway Park this season, his best numbers are away from home. The right-hander is 8-1 with an AL-best 1.65 ERA in nine road starts this year and the under is 4-1 in his last five road starts. Beckett is 2-0 with a 4.60 ERA in three career starts against the White Sox.
Jeff Weaver (Seattle Mariners) - The Mariners starter has been weaving some magic of his own lately and will try to keep it going tonight against the red-hot Texas offense. Weaver, who is 5-10 with a 5.57 ERA this season, is riding a three-game winning streak into tonight's game. With the Rangers coming off the biggest offensive night in AL history, it will be up to Weaver to cool them off. The right-hander is 2-5 with a 5.25 ERA in nine starts and one relief appearance against the Rangers over his career. This will be his first time facing them this season.
Tom Glavine (New York Mets) - The future Hall of Famer will try to lead the Mets to a series win over the Padres tonight at Shea Stadium. Glavine is 4-0 over his last seven starts and has been particularly strong in his last four. Mets backers should feel confident with Glavine starting at Shea, where he is 4-0 with a 1.96 ERA in six outings since May 30. He is 22-12 with a 3.46 ERA in 44 career starts versus the Padres, but hasn't faced them since 2005. The under is 8-2 in Glavine's last 10 Thursday starts.
Cold
Boof Bonser (Minnesota Twins) - It has been a long summer for Boof Bonser. The Twins starter has not won a game since June 10 and he will try to stop the bleeding tonight against the shell-shocked Orioles. The right-hander is 0-8 with a 5.65 ERA in 12 starts since his last victory against the Washington Nationals, but he is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in two career starts against Baltimore. Totals bettors should note that the under is 10-1-1 in Bonser's last 12 starts overall.
John Danks (Chicago White Sox) - Danks is hoping to end a personal four-game losing streak tonight against the favored Red Sox. The rookie left-hander has had a horrble month, losing all four starts while racking up a 7.91 ERA in the process. He has allowed 27 hits, including six home runs, over 19 1-3 innings during that span. Danks lost his only start against the Red Sox 11-2 at Boston on July 21, giving up four runs and seven hits in six innings.
Rick VandenHurk (Florida Marlins) - VandenHurk is 3-4 with a 7.36 ERA this season and has struggled badly in his last 13 starts. The Marlins rookie is 0-2 with a 9.69 ERA in his last three outings including 4-3 loss to San Francisco on Saturday night in which he allowed four runs and seven hits. The only thing going for Florida backers is the fact that the right-hander's last decent start was against the Cardinals on July 17 when he pitched five scoreless innings. The over is 4-0 in VandenHurk's last four road starts.
