Former NBA forward Griffin dead at 25
Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Former NBA player Eddie Griffin died last week when his sport utility vehicle collided with a freight train.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Griffin's body was so badly burned in the crash that investigators needed dental records to identify the 25-year-old forward, who began his pro career with the Houston Rockets after being taken with the seventh pick in the 2001 NBA Draft out of Seton Hall.

Griffin struggled with alcohol problems throughout his NBA career and was suspended by the league for five games in January for violating the anti-drug program. He also spent time in the Betty Ford Center for alcohol treatment in 2003-04.

Griffin also played with the New Jersey Nets and the Minnesota Timberwolves, who waived him in March.

Griffin averaged 7.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in five NBA seasons.

God Bless him and his family.
