      San Francisco at Florida
Noah Lowry is quietly putting up some solid numbers (13-7; 3.28) for a Giants' team that hasn't had much to crow about aside from Bonds' HR chase. The left-hander is 4-0 with a 2.43 ERA in his last five starts. As pleasant a surprise as Lowry has been, Dontrelle Willis has been just the opposite. While he did pick up a victory in his last start, Willis had gone a 13-start stretch prior to that in which his record was 0-9 with a 5.14 ERA. With San Francisco pitching having held the Marlins to just three runs and nine hits over the first two games, Lowry looks primed to take advantage today and makes the Giants a good underdog pick (+105) according to Dunkel, which has SF favored straight up by 1 1/2. Dunkel Pick: San Francisco (+105). Here are all of today's games.

                    Sunday Night Baseball

Game: St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs

                    Line: -158, 9

                    Shake your money maker

Chicago’s 91 million-dollar man takes the bump tonight on Sunday Night Baseball. With the ink barely dry on his new five-year extension, the Chicago Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano goes for win No. 15 against the Cardinals.

Zambrano is 14-9 on the season with a 3.86 ERA. The right-hander was stellar in July, posting a 5-1 record and a 1.38 ERA but has yet to record a victory this month. Zambrano is 0-2 in three August starts and lugs an ERA above 7.00. He has allowed 23 hits, 12 walks in just under 18 innings of work.

"Sometimes you don't have your best stuff and sometimes you go out there and try to do too much," Zambrano told reporters following his most recent start. "That's part of the game. Just learn from this and from the bad games and keep your head up."

Big Z can prove his worth against the St. Louis Cardinals, who he has dominated this season, going 2-0 with an ERA just south of 2.00.

On the other side, the $4 million St. Louis will pay starter Kip Wells this season is chump change compared to Zambrano’s pay checks, but the right-hander’s recent performances have been worth every penny.

Wells is 2-0 in his last three appearances with an ERA of 2.37. He has struck out 13 batters during this stretch and given up only five earned runs. Wells is 6-13 on the season with an ERA just above 5.00.

In his 15 career starts versus Chicago, Wells is 3-4 with a 3.03 ERA and hasn’t recorded a win over the Cubs since late 2003. He suffered a loss in his most recent meeting with Chicago back in July when he allowed two earned runs on eight hits in just under seven innings pitched.

                    Jacque of all trades

Two months ago, Chicago was shopping struggling Jacque Jones after the outfielder opened the year hitting .220 with two home runs and 20 RBIs over the first three month of the season.

It seems the trade rumors scared Jones straight because he is hitting .348 since the All-Star break and is a huge part of the Cubs’ push for the postseason. Chicago is 19-16 since the break and is currently in first place in the National League Central after taking the first two games against the Cardinals.

''As bad as I was going in the first half, I figured I don't have anything to lose,” Jones told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Jones has 26 RBIs with three home runs and 12 doubles since the break and had a nine-game hit streak snapped on Saturday when he went 0-4 at the plate.

                    Cards’ wings clipped

The St. Louis Cardinals were soaring towards a possible postseason spot before this weekend’s three-game set with the Cubs, but dropped like a rock after losing the first two contests in Chicago.

The Cardinals were within 2 ½ games of the NL Central lead and only two behind Chicago, who now leads the division by half a game. St. Louis rode a five-game winning streak into Friday, scoring 46 runs on 68 hits during that stretch. In the two games against the Cubbies, they had only four runs on 12 hits.

Chicago has also struggled at the plate. They have managed to score seven runs on only eight hits during this series, capitalizing with runners in scoring position, like Daryle Ward’s grand slam on Saturday afternoon. Both games in this series have played under the total.

                    Cubs could be one short

With veteran Cliff Floyd dealing with the death of his father, the Cubs are in a squeeze for tonight’s roster. Floyd’s time on the bereavement list came to an end on Saturday and he now must join the team or be placed on the restricted list before tonight's game.

''I don't know when Cliff will be back,'' Chicago manager Lou Piniella told the Chicago Sun-Times. ''He's a good guy, and he's been through a lot here. He'll probably need a couple of days to work when he does come back.''

If Floyd is placed on the restricted list, he will have to give the team his consent because he will not receive pay while he's on the RL. This would also leave the Cubs shorthanded for tonight’s Game 3 against the Cardinals.

The outfielder was putting in good work recently for Chicago. He is hitting .290 with four home runs and 36 RBIs during his 217 at-bats this season.

                    Soggy Chicago nights

Wet weather delayed the start of Saturday’s game for about an hour and later held up action in the eighth inning for 65 minutes. The same fate could be in store for Sunday Night Baseball as thunder showers have been pounding Chicago all day.

Tonight’s forecast calls for a 70 percent chance of showers and a game-time temperature in the low 70s. The weather is expected to worsen later on in the evening but the dreaded winds of Wrigley Field will remain relatively calm, blowing south-south east at 7 mph.
