you DON'T gamble with someone who has been horrible of late!!!
But you potentially gamble on the health of somoene who could be your ace for years to come?
Listen to Tito's press conference...he said he wouldn't use him in both games. The issue is he shouldn't have used him in a 4 run game, not that he didn't use him in two games.
That is true. I didn't think there was any need to bring him in, in a 3 run game in the 8th earlier today. They should have let that one finish out with okie and Gagne, while saving Paps for Beckett's start.
Paps can pitch......Ive seen him look disguested a few times that he wasnt out there when the game was on the line.
They rested him long enough......less than 45 days left in the season its now or never folks......you cant save a guy for the postseason when there are no guaruntees you will even make it
Yes, i believe with that rally and the emotion in the team at that point, you had to seal the deal with Pap. Enough is enough. If he has arm problems, than that's why you got Gagne. It's one fucken inning and Francona is really making me ill lately .......
How can you trash the manager that brought Boston a World Series after all those years?????????
You just got on Doc and me about Torre!
Had to give you some crap Wayne. My eyes lit up when I saw your post!
I didn't watch either Sox game today but I do know that Tito treats Papelbon like his arm is made of glass.
I would have rather seen Timlin, Okajima or Delcarmen right there before Gagne. I agree with savage, Gagne needs to right his head in some non pressure situations. He has admitted to putting a ton of pressure on himself wanting to help Boston Win. After that emotional 8th tonight, the pressure tripled when he was called on in the 9th with only a 1 run lead. I knew when he threw 20 pitches to the 1st batter that we were fucked.
Again not to date myself, but back in the 60's, when there were continuous doubleheaders(one game after the other with one admission), it was common for guys like Radatz to pitch 2 or three innings in the first game(there was no such thing as a closer back then), and then to pitch a couple of innings in the second game if the situation warranted.
I mean are pitchers so babied/pampered that on a given day they can't be asked to pitch one inning in two games on the same day?

Pitchers are so babied it is insane. I guys use to throw till their arms fell off. Now they sit out if they get out of bed wrong.

Exactly...knowing he wouldn't use him in both games, he should never have used him in G1 unless he had to. And a 3 run lead is not having to'..

Im only 29 but I hear stories of teams having 4 man rotations and guys pitching every 4th day.......300 frames a year was common back then.....shit if you go back even farther guys were winning 40 games a year back in the teens and 20s
The more they treat these pitchers with caution the less tolerance they will have when a manager puts his foot on the gas and hence they try and never do that (dont wanna lose their job)
I would love for someone to find out what the most pitches Nolan Ryan ever threw in a game.
