    Streaking Pitchers

    Sunday, August 12

    Hot

Jamie Moyer (Philadelphia Phillies) - The veteran lefty is coming around at the right time for Phillies backers. With Philadelphia in the heat of the playoff chase, Moyer has been the best he's been all season. Moyer is 3-0 over his last four starts with a 2.50 ERA since July 22. The Phils are -117 favorites tonight against the Atlanta Braves. Moyer has kept the ball in the ballpark, having given up only one home run during the hot streak.

Jake Peavy (San Diego Padres) - Peavy is back on track after dropping three straight games in July. The NL Cy Young hopeful is undefeated (3-0) in August with a miniscule 0.45 ERA and 0.75 WHIP. Peavy has been especially lights-out away from Petco Park this season, with a 6-0 record and 0.89 ERA on the road. With the Padres at -142 in Cincinnati today against the Reds, there's plenty of value in Peavy and San Diego.

    Cold

Claudio Vargas (Milwaukee Brewers) - Like so many members of the Brewers pitching staff, Vargas has gone downhill in the second half. Vargas is 1-2 over his last three outings with a 7.64 ERA. The biggest problem has been that's he's allowed too many hits - he's given up 26 in his last 17 innings of work. His Brewers are -103 today against the Houston Astros.

Nate Robertson (Detroit Tigers) - Robertson might be pitching himself right out of his spot in the Tigers rotation. Robertson is 2-5 over his last 10 trips to the hill, without winning a game in almost a month. With a 6.52 ERA since July 23, Robertson is well on his way to his worst full season in the big leagues. Oddsmakers have the Tigers at -136 today against the Oakland Athletics.

        Umpire Info

        The American League!

In Detroit: You can go OVER with Angel Hernandez, and you might be comfortable with backing the Tigers, since Angel Humps the Home team, and especially the Home Favorite! The Home Favorite is 12-4 Under Angel.

        He's 12-9 OVER

Averages 10.21 runs per game and his 1.77 K/BB ratio will take you OVER in a heartbeat!

He allows and average of 2 Home Runs per game.

Folks: He only strikes out 12.6 Batters per game and he walks 7.1 guys, so expect a contact filled game with men on the bags. He only gives you a 62% strike rate!

This ump likes the defense. Take the better defense, because he will get the ball into the infield in a hurry!

He's only 12-9 OVER because the defenses and the good ground ball pitchers keep the men of home plate.

Just a couple of days ago, the A's and Dallas Braden lost 7-1 to Seattle! Hint Hint!

In Cleveland: Tim McClelland Loves the Home Favorite as well! He's an unbelievable 15-5 for the Hove Favorite at any price!

Timmy allows an average of 8.88 Runs per game and he has gone UNDER the posted total on 14 out of 22 tries! He's pretty neutral on all his splits, but he likes to keep the ball down, and on the field, so look to your defense to win the game!

Tim has hit 8 or under on his totals in 7 straight games!

There are no recent numbers for Pettite or Jake with this ump, but Andy is 4-1 and Jake is 1-0. All games were under 9.

In Baltimore: Eddy Rapuano is on deck! He's another Home Team Humper! The Home Favorite is 11-3 from -101 to -160!

He averages 7.75 Runs per game and can pretty much back it up with his numbers. I'll save you the trouble and say that he can get you UNDER and Shill may have a good game!

It's important to note that this UMP is an UNDER UMP, but he saw 10 and 12 runs in his last two games! Maybe we can get an UNDER here?

Schilling does suck in this zone (for whatever reason). He has loses in his last two starts and he got shelled! His team lost 8-5 and 8-3!

Trachsel teams gave up 6, 5, and 11 runs to this UMP!

        WOW!

In Chicago: Another UNDER UMP! He averages 7.67 Runs per game! He has gone UNDER on 14 out of 22 games this year.He strikes out almost 15 batters a game (one of the highest in the MLB)!

This UMP only has 8 games under his belt, in the past Weaver has stayed UNDER the total with him 3 straight times, but his numbers stretch back to 2005.

Danks has never seen this guy.

In Los Angeles: Boof and the other Weaver boy have a nice, strong UNDER UMP waiting for them. Thsi UMP is UNDER on 14 out of 22 tries. He is 8-1 UNDER on totals set at 9.5! Larry Poncino has the numbers to back all of this up. A 63% strike Rate, and a 2.22 K/BB ratio are all you need!

Jared Weaver lost to Gil Meche with this UMP this year, in May! 5-2

        ************************************************** *******************
        The National League!

In New York: Chad Fairchild doesn't know whether he's coming or going. He's taken teams UNDER 6 out of 7 times on totals set at 9.5, but he taken teams OVER 4 out of 5 times on totals set between 10 and 10.5!

He strikes out 15.1 batters per game (league high), but he has an OVER inspiring 61.42% strike rate!

He takes control of the game. He walks 7.2 batters per game: This means that he directly influences almost 23 at bats per game!

        Watch out folks!

        This guy is messed up!

It all depends on his mood!

Vanden Hurk got destroyed but this UMP in April: 11-6 loss.

In Cincy: You can go OVER with Tony Randazzo. He averages 10.18 Runs per game. He has the numbers to back it up.

Arroyo is not particularly good with this zone.

Peavy has a 6-3 victory under his belt with this UMP.

In Houston: This UMP will get you UNDER but I classify him as a Neutral UMP. He's a good, old fashioned UMP. Consider the playing field level.

Woody Williams beat Matt Morris 6-5 with this UMP this year.

Vargas is cool with this UMP. No worries so far.

In Saint Louis: Paul Nauert is an UMP I pointed out to you about 4 days ago. I told you that Santana of Minnesota might struggle with him, and i stated that he would only last 6 innings with this UMP.

He only lasted 6 innings and walked the first batter he faced! So I was right, but lost the bet.

        Nauert hates the power pitcher.

He allows an average of 10.32 Runs per game!

He's gone OVER on 14 out of 22 tries.

Consider him an OVER UMP, but be careful!

                Hot Lines

                Sunday, August 12

Florida Marlins at New York Mets (-215, 9 ½)

If it weren’t for bad luck, the Mets wouldn’t have any luck at all. Two days after Carlos Beltran returned from injury, starting catcher Paul Lo Duca was put on the disabled list.

Lo Duca strained his right hamstring on Saturday night - the same injured muscle that him sidelined for a week earlier this month. Lo Duca is the type of player who’d ask to play even if his leg fell off so it’s apparent the decision to go on the shelf was not his.

“He’s not thrilled,” Mets general manager Omar Minaya told MLB.com. “It was basically taken out of his hands. It was our decision.”

The news on Beltran is much better. The Gold Glove outfielder hit a three-run homer on Friday against the Marlins, his first game back from the DL. He didn’t play yesterday because manager Willie Randolph wanted to be cautious with Beltran's strained oblique. The No. 3 hitter is expected to be in the lineup again today.

                Pick: Marlins +197

Los Angeles Dodgers at St. Louis Cardinals (-122, 9)

Is there a better story in all of sports than the comeback of Rick Ankiel? The former stud pitching prospect hit two big flies yesterday giving him three in three games since being called up from Triple-A ball earlier this week.

Ankiel decided to ditch pitching five years after an embarrassing performance in the 2000 playoffs. Now two and a half years later, he’s giving the Cards a much-needed emotional boost.

“You know St. Louis is in a pennant race – they’re not just calling this kid up for a feel-good story,” Los Angeles pitcher Derek Lowe said after losing 6-1 to the Cardinals. “I’m amazed at what he could do. I know I couldn’t stop pitching and become a major league hitter.”

                Pick: Cardinals –122

Tampa Bay Devil Rays at Texas Rangers (-140, 10 ½)

Carl Crawford is hitting like a 12-year-old kid with a Nintendo Game Genie for RBI Baseball. The All-Star outfielder owns a 12-game hit streak while batting a ridiculous .571. He’s been the bread and butter for the Rays offense with four dingers and 16 runs scored in the same 12-game period.

“Everything he hits right now is a line drive,” D-Rays manager Joe Maddon told the St. Petersburg Times. “He’s about as locked in as you could be right now.”

If Carlos Pena could find his swing again – he’s hitting just .183 in his last 22 games – it would really give Crawford some protection in the batting order. Maddon gave Pena the day off on Saturday so expect the first baseman to get back on track today.

                Pick: Devil Rays +132
