Hot
Jamie Moyer (Philadelphia Phillies) - The veteran lefty is coming around at the right time for Phillies backers. With Philadelphia in the heat of the playoff chase, Moyer has been the best he's been all season. Moyer is 3-0 over his last four starts with a 2.50 ERA since July 22. The Phils are -117 favorites tonight against the Atlanta Braves. Moyer has kept the ball in the ballpark, having given up only one home run during the hot streak.
Jake Peavy (San Diego Padres) - Peavy is back on track after dropping three straight games in July. The NL Cy Young hopeful is undefeated (3-0) in August with a miniscule 0.45 ERA and 0.75 WHIP. Peavy has been especially lights-out away from Petco Park this season, with a 6-0 record and 0.89 ERA on the road. With the Padres at -142 in Cincinnati today against the Reds, there's plenty of value in Peavy and San Diego.
Cold
Claudio Vargas (Milwaukee Brewers) - Like so many members of the Brewers pitching staff, Vargas has gone downhill in the second half. Vargas is 1-2 over his last three outings with a 7.64 ERA. The biggest problem has been that's he's allowed too many hits - he's given up 26 in his last 17 innings of work. His Brewers are -103 today against the Houston Astros.
Nate Robertson (Detroit Tigers) - Robertson might be pitching himself right out of his spot in the Tigers rotation. Robertson is 2-5 over his last 10 trips to the hill, without winning a game in almost a month. With a 6.52 ERA since July 23, Robertson is well on his way to his worst full season in the big leagues. Oddsmakers have the Tigers at -136 today against the Oakland Athletics.
