Florida at New York Mets (7:10 p.m. EDT). Tom Glavine makes his first start for the Mets since reaching 300 victories.

    STARS
    Friday

-Khalil Greene, Padres, homered and drove in three runs, including the go-ahead run in the 11th, and San Diego beat Cincinnati 12-7.

-Bobby Jenks, White Sox, earned his 33rd save while tying an American League record by retiring his 38th batter in a row, and Chicago beat Seattle 5-3.

-Conor Jackson, Diamondbacks, drove in four runs with two homers in an 11-4 win over Washington.

-Frank Catalanotto, Rangers, hit a go-ahead homer and had a career-high five RBIs to help Texas beat beat Tampa Bay 7-4.

-James Loney, Dodgers, broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the ninth inning in a 2-1 win over St. Louis.

    MILESTONE MEN

Barry Bonds added another home run to his record count in San Francisco's 8-7 loss to Pittsburgh on Friday night. Bonds connected for No. 758 - a two-run shot in the third inning off former teammate Matt Morris. ... Alex Rodriguez hit career home run No. 501 in the Yankees' 6-1 victory over Cleveland. Rodriguez, who became the youngest player to reach the 500-homer plateau last week, connected for his 37th homer in the second inning off Fausto Carmona.

    SAVING GRACE

Bobby Jenks recorded his 33rd save in 38 chances Friday night, helping the White Sox beat Seattle 5-3. Jenks has retired 38 straight batters, tying David Wells' American League record set in 1998 with the Yankees. It's the fourth-longest streak in major league history.

    LUCKY SEVEN

Jack Cust hit a grand slam and drove in seven runs, and the Oakland Athletics rallied after blowing a seven-run lead to beat the reeling Detroit Tigers 16-10 Friday night. Donnie Murphy homered and drove in three runs as the A's handed Detroit its seventh loss in nine games. The Tigers are 11-18 since the All-Star break.

    STRONG IN DEFEAT

Rajai Davis singled, doubled, tripled and scored a career-best four runs Friday night in the San Francisco Giants' 8-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

    SPEAKING

''We had our number-four hitter up there with two home runs and four RBIs today and he's bunting. That's what this team's all about. The situation called for a bunt right there and he got it done.'' - Arizona manager Bob Melvin on Conor Jackson, whose sacrifice bunt in the seventh set up the go-ahead runs in the Diamondbacks' 11-4 win over the Nationals on Friday night.

    SEASONS
    August 11

1907 - In the second game of a doubleheader, shortened by agreement, Ed Karger of the St. Louis Cardinals pitched a seven-inning perfect game, beating the Boston Braves 4-0.

1926 - Tris Speaker of Cleveland hit his 700th career double, but the Indians lost to the Chicago White Sox 7-2. The double came in the third inning off Joe Edwards.

1929 - Babe Ruth hit his 500th career home run in the second inning off Willis Hudlin at Cleveland's League Park. The homer was Ruth's 30th of the year, but it wasn't enough as the Indians beat the Yankees 6-5.

1951 - Robin Roberts of the Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Giants 4-0, dropping the Giants 13 1/2 games behind the first-place Brooklyn Dodgers.

1961 - Warren Spahn of the Milwaukee Braves scattered six hits to beat the Chicago Cubs, 2-1, for his 300th career victory.

1970 - Philadelphia's Jim Bunning beat the Houston Astros 6-5 to become the first pitcher to win 100 games in both leagues since Cy Young.

1986 - Cincinnati player-manager Pete Rose, 45, singled four times and doubled to set an NL record with the 10th five-hit game of his career. Rose drove in three runs in a 13-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants, to move one ahead of Max Carey for the record.

      Saturday, August 11

      Hot

John Lackey (Los Angeles Angels) - Lackey has been excellent lately, looking like the ace of a staff primed to push the Angels deep into the postseason. The big Texan is 2-0 over his last three starts with a 2.49 ERA for the Angels, -206 favorites tonight against the Minnesota Twins. Lackey has been especially effective during night games this season, with an 11-3 record and a stellar 2.83 ERA.

Brandon Webb (Arizona Diamondbacks) - Webb's recent rap sheet makes you do a double take. The reigning 2006 NL Cy Young award winner is 3-0 since July 21 with an ERA of 0.00. That's right, Webb has a 23-inning scoreless streak on the go, pacing the surprise Diamondbacks to first place in the NL West division. Over that streak, Webb has held opposing batters to a strong .233 OBP against. Books have Arizona as -220 favorites tonight against the Washington Nationals.

      Cold

Adam Eaton (Philadelphia Phillies) - Eaton is not the guy Phillies backers want on the mound as they attempt to catch the New York Mets atop the NL East division. The righty is winless in three outings with a 7.88 ERA to go along with an unimpressive 1.88 WHIP. Eaton hasn't been good all season long, and Philadelphia backers must wonder how much longer he'll stay in the rotation. Oddsmakers have the Phillies as -124 favorites tonight against the Atlanta Braves.

Justin Germano (San Diego Padres) - Oddsmakers have set the Padres as -112 favorites on the road today against the Cincinnati Reds. With the way Germano is throwing the ball right now, they may have made a mistake. Germano hasn't cashed a start for San Diego in almost a month and has an ERA of just under 7.00 since July 21.

        Saturday, August 11

Toronto Blue Jays at Kansas City Royals (+111, 9 ½)

The Toronto Blue Jays will try to win back-to-back road games for the first time since June today when they face the Royals in the second of a three-game series. Last night the Jays managed a tight 2-1 win at Kauffman Stadium.

Leading the way on the offensive front for Toronto is Vernon Wells. The outfielder had a two-run double in Friday's win, improving his average to .429 (9-for-21) in his last five games against Kansas.

Dustin McGowan (8-5, 4.11) takes the mound for the Jays. The righty is 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA over his last four outings. Toronto has taken three of four from the Royals this season, and with McGowan on the mound they should be able to make that four of five tonight.

        Pick: Blue Jays -119

San Diego Padres at Cincinnati Reds (+104, 10 ½)

The San Diego Padres managed just three runs in three games against St. Louis earlier this week, but then erupted for 12 in last night’s extra-innings victory over the Reds. Now they are looking to carry that offensive surge into the rest of the series.

The Padres’ lineup is also set to receive a huge boost when Milton Bradley returns from the DL, most likely for today’s game. He is batting .360 with five home runs and 15 RBIs in 22 games this season.

San Diego hands the ball to Justin Germano (6-6, 4.30) as he looks to snap a three-game losing streak. The right-hander has been impressive on the road this season, going 4-2 with a 3.19 ERA.

        Pick: Padres –112

Chicago Cubs at Colorado Rockies (-106, 10)

A trip to Denver seems to be just what the doctor ordered for an ailing Cubs offense. Chicago scored 16 runs in winning the first two games against the Rockies, a big change after coming into the series on a four-game slide in which the Cubbies produced just eight runs.

Now the Cubs get the chance to lend a hand to starter Rich Hill (6-6, 3.54) – and he is well overdue for some help. The big lefty has won just twice in 16 attempts, but has gotten the lowest run support of any starter in the majors at 3.27.

The Rockies hand the ball to Josh Fogg (6-7, 4.37), but he is 6-7 with a 5.85 ERA against Chicago. This could finally be a good day for Hill.

        Pick: Cubs -102
