  • Good news for Cubs fans.

Carlos Zambrano has announced that he's ready to sign a five-year extension with the Cubs, according to the Chicago Tribune. "I'm ready to sign," Zambrano said. "My hand is ready to sign that contract. Just bring it to me. I want to stay here and be a Cubbie for a long time." That said, the two parties have not had any recent conversations, so it still may be a while before a deal actually gets done. Zambrano is thought to be looking at a deal that brings him about $18 million per season.

    No shock there.

Everyone made a big deal about the Cubs pulling the negotiations off the table when the Tribune company said they were selling the cubs...but it was the right thing to do for the Trib company.

Whoever the new owner is...first priority would be to sign that contract.
