                Six-pack for Saturday

-- Scott Hairston had been 0 for 7 as a Padre, then hit HRs in 8th and 10th innings to become a folk hero in San Diego, as they beat Giants in extra innings.

-- Nationals quietly have won eight of last nine at home.

-- Doug Davis threw eight shutout innings as Arizona won at LA, staying red-hot. They're an interesting team.

-- They packed in another 39,483 at Miller Park Friday, as Brewers beat Phillies, 2-1; they must be making a fortune in Milwaukee this season.

-- Angels' reliever Shields is 0-7 in his career at the McAfee Coliseum after imploding in 8th inning of Friday's loss.

-- Red Sox have now lost nine in a row at Safeco Field.

Saturday's List of 13: Our list of kids who impressed us at the 17-year old tournaments in Orlando...............

This list is in no particular order; again, not necessarily best kids that I saw down here, but kids who made an impression on me while we hung out, ate peanuts and watched ball.......

                  13) Larry Webster III, 6-7 Diamond State Titans-- Titans had a tough time in Orlando, but this kid hustled every second he was on the floor, and for a kid 6-7, he can really run. He has raw talent, needs work on offense, but he was fun to watch.

                  12) Tracy Parks, 6-0, Largo Magic-- Saw him play couple of times, liked his offense, playmaking. Wasn't on best team, but he kept his team in both games vs superior opponents.

                  11) John Hegarty, 7-0, Lena Park-Boston-- This kid looks lot like Haystacks Calhoun, the old pro wrestler; on the court, he is surprisingly nimble for his size. When he walked into gym, everyone stopped and looked-- very big kid.

                  10) Zack Hicks, 6-10, Apex Force-- He didn't start, he wore a sleeve on both knees and wasn't especially graceful, but he was darned good player. He was good rebounder, got lot of loose balls, showed touch around basket when we saw him.

                  9) Kevin Kerr, 6-0, NYC Jaguars-- If you're 6-0, blond, and the last name is Kerr (wearing #4), you better be able to shoot. When we saw him, he drained couple 3's, but had two other ones blocked by kids 6-7 or taller coming out to challenge him. But he had an outstanding shooting touch, no doubt.

                  8) Miegel Paul, Team STAT-- Amare Stoudemire's team lost close game to Baltimore Stars, but the 6-1 Paul drove through entire Stars team and hit acrobatic runner to give him team the lead in last 0:10, just an amazing individual play.

                  7) Dewayne Davis, 6-3, PA Red Storm-- A throwback to ABA days in 70's, this kid is like Fly Williams or Bo Lamar in their prime-- he likes to shoot, but has passing skills. He needs to keep an even keel when he plays, but is a D-I talent.

                  6) Michael Shanahan, 6-5, Pittsburgh Storm-- Object of battle between Akron, Siena, Bucknell and others for his services- he is also an old-time player, but more of a Debusschere type solid on defense, good passer, showed scoring skills only in times of need. Interesting to see how good perimeter shooter he will be in college, but he'll be a very good college player.

                  5) Rodney Clinkscales, 6-0, Rising Stars Blue-- Dropped 33 on solid Westchester Hawks team; after game, a scouting guru on baseline called it, "....the easiest 33 I've seen in a while. He never even hogged the ball." Very impressive player.

                  4) Malik Witten, 6-3, West Virginia Select-- Lefty dynamo was point guard whenever he got rebound, which was often and he can get to basket easily. His team sputtered when he got in foul trouble vs Alabama. Prototypical D-II player.

                  3) Daniel Wulker, 6-6 Shining Star Callahan-- He didn't start, but he was good when got in game. Has the perimeter skills to excel on next level. Hard working player. When we saw him play, all he did was make positive plays.

                  2) Andrew Rogers, 5-8, Philadelphia Patriots-- Little bit like a Jared Jordan-type, but smaller; he runs show-- can shoot it, is good passer, spunky leader. Is going to get posted up a lot at next level, but kids like this always find way to survive.

                  1) Greg Monroe, 6-10, Louisiana Select-- Most of the SEC was courtside to watch him play, as was Louisville and Duke. Has exceptional talent, sometimes resembles Sam Perkins, in that he looks like he is gliding through games-- he is really good.
