Now this comes out, and I'm like shit, it all makes sense.
    BW - My thoughts exactly!
Agree with Gris and Savage as well.

I have to think that this issue will be placed under a fine microscope and the players will be held accountable as well.
Gambling in sports related venues may corrupt college players even more. They are inexperienced and will fall for schemes that help them or their family.
In Hoops, Refs control the tempo of the games and so totals are a big issue here. Calling excessive fouls, allowing time to run off without correcting, technicals, etc gives a nice over. Unders can be done by not allowing baskets, doubledribble, defensive or offensive scheme foul, 3 second rule, etc.

Is there anyone that agrees with me on this? I don't really have a problem with Pete Rose betting on the Reds to win. I would let any manager or player bet on his team to win, but the refs betting on games is huge, because they're suppose to have nothing to do with the games outcome. Pete Rose was suppose to have an impact on the outcome of Reds games.

Just heard the name on ESPN. Guy used to play for Villanova, named Holleman ( sic) or something. Never heard of him, not one of the "name" refs.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find, you get what you need.

Jesse, they can't let anyone bet on their own sport, because if they did, they couldn't control the greed that would accompany it. Pete was wrong, but he still should be reinstated to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The human nature of some are to always try to get over, to better their life style.

I agree, they can't let any one involved in sports bet on sports, it would open a can of worms.

In Donaghy's games this year, the road team was 41-30-1 ATS and Overs were 43-29 ATS. Both numbers are rather lopsided. It's sure safe to assume he played a lot of overs.

The total is a lot easier to manipulate than a side. if a ref makes several blatantly bad calls against only one team, it'll be noticed. But he could easily call a lot of fouls on both teams to force free throws (and therefore more points) with people just assuming he's calling ticky-tack fouls on both teams.

this is why all sports gambling should be legalized here. this would be very hard to do if it were regulated. maybe this will open the govt's eyes.

I'll go a step further and state that it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the Commissioner's Office(Stern and company) give subtle hints to the refs in key games in the playoffs to call games a certain way in the interest of tv revenues, etc.

Like others my initial thoughts were Joey Crawford. The league was very quick to suspend him from his episode with Duncan. They were probably aware he was under investigation. They seized the first opportunity to suspend him for the playoffs.

This really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. The NBA has steadily become a "low class" league in terms of play quality and integrity.

I often thought calls were bullshit in NBA games, and specifically Jess Kersey making the most absurd calls. The fact that they are getting "pinched" goes to show how even the crooks can't keep things quiet anymore.

Does anyone recall the Bulls-Hornets playoff game many years ago. Jordan had just came out of retirement....wearing the number 45 jersey. Hersey Hawkins went in for a game winning layup at the horn, and was "hammered" by Jordan, and there was no call and the Bulls moved on to the next round (more ratings for the network with Jordan in it).......take a guess at who was one of the refs in that game.....CASE CLOSED.

You and I are usually the first ones to rip guys for talking about fixed games. To me, it's usually just sour grapes over a lost bet.

Who knows now? It would be very easy for a hoops ref to fix a total. You hope they have the integrity not to do it. But if it's going on in the NBA, there's likelihood that there is a bad apple ot two in other sports as well.
