Ankiel is playing at Triple A memphis as an outfielder. He is hitting .273 with 26 homers and 70 rbi. He will be a called up this year and a probable outfielder next year.
The Carpenter deal sucks. But if anyone can come back from this surgery its Carp. This team is a mess and the feeling around town is that this is La Russas last year. Which is fine by me. I think he is the most over-rated manager of this era.
Just like Torre he has won because of the talent he has had on his teams. We lucked into a World Series last year. But this team is in turmoil. Not alot of talent here. La Russa does not get along with Rolen, Edmonds, and others. Anthony Reyes goes down to Memphis and pitches well but when they call him up to the big club and Tony changes his approach to the way he wants him to pitch, he gets knocked around. Then Tony blames the pitcher. Larussa has done alot of things to alienate him from the fans and the players this year. Its like he is trying to say I am done with this team. He has privately said that he is upset with the lack of spending this team has done in the last year or so. One issue that the fans agree with him on. This team has a new stadium, a world series championship and sellouts every game. But ownership won't spend any money. Hell they sold everything from old Busch including the urinals. But they can't go over their budget. This team is done.

Wow didn't realize Ankiel could hit. He had some good movement on his pitches, but had a mechanical/mental problem.
