I know all the reasons this is a dumb pick: don't bet on all star games, the American League hasn't lost in ten years, the AL is the better league this year, the AL lineup is stronger, the AL starters are stronger, the AL bullpen is stronger. I admit all of that is true. But this IS the right play. An all-star game has little to do with reality. Normal strategies are abandoned. Pitchers that get shelled are often allowed to finish innings. Top players are removed from the game just to let somebody else get in. I contend the game is, therefore, a tossup. The one edge is the ability to bat last. The National League has that. Past results are meaningless. Last year's players weren't the same as this year's. This isn't like a ten game streak involving a hot team during the season. It's a long term quirk. If you get 13-10 odds on a coin flip, you'd be crazy not to take them. I play almost all dogs and I like this one because I have the ability to be paid considerably more than I am betting on a proposition that I consider to be 50-50.
