I looked in my local newspaper at the AL/NL All Star Lineup and Ryan Howard of the Phillies isnt listed on either the starters or reserves?? But he is going to be in the HomeRun Derby..WTF is this about??

Here is the NL Lineup that is listed in my newspaper..

Staters are as follows:

Russell Martin,Prince Feilder,Chase Utley,David Wright,Jose Reyes,Carlos Beltran,Barry Bonds(BULLSHIT),Griffey Jr.

Reserves are as follows:

Brian McCan,Miguel Cabrera,JJ Hardy,Orlando Hudson,Derrek Lee,Albert Pujols,Freddy Sanchez,Dmitri Young,Matt Holliday,Carlos Lee,Aaron Rowland,Alfonso Soriano

He did not make the all star team but has elected to do the Derby...from my understanding, anyone can be invited to the Derby

Generally it is just people that are on an All-Star team, but they extended the invite to Howard b/c he won last year.

He wasn't even playing when most of the voting was going on, he was on the DL. He was struggling before going on the DL now starting to heat up.

I'm a big Ron Howard fan because I had him to win the HR title last year at 40-1, but when you look at this years first base selections and Howard's average for this year, it's hard to make a case for him to replace anyone.

His BA is only .256 and just a couple of weeks ago, it was still in the .240's and lower before then. Pujols BA is .309 with 4 less Home Runs than Howard. Dmitri Young had to be picked because he is the only National doing well but his BA is .339 almost 100 points higher than Howards. The only player Howard could possibly replace is Derrick Lee, with just 6 home runs, but he is batting .341.
