        Monday

-- Damian Miller, Brewers, homered twice and matched a club record with seven RBIs in Milwaukee's 10-3 rout of Pittsburgh.

-- Roger Clemens, Yankees, allowed one run on two hits in eight innings in the New York Yankees' 5-1 win over Minnesota.

-- David Wells, Padres, pitched 6 2-3 scoreless innings and struck out a season-high six in San Diego's 3-1 win against Florida.

        ROCKET WINS 350TH

Roger Clemens reached a rare milestone, pitching eight innings of two-hit ball to earn his 350th career win and lead the New York Yankees past Minnesota 5-1 on Monday. Clemens became the first major leaguer to win 350 games since Hall of Famer Warren Spahn of the Milwaukee Braves accomplished the feat in 1963. Yankees manager Joe Torre was Spahn's catcher in that game.

        MILLER TIME

Milwaukee's backup catcher Damian Miller homered twice, including a grand slam, and matched a club record with seven RBIs in a 10-3 rout of Pittsburgh on Monday. Miller went 4-for-5 while playing for the first time since his three-run, game-ending homer in the 11th inning beat Houston on Wednesday. Miller has three homers and 11 RBIs in two games after previously having no homers and six RBIs all season.

        INJURED A-ROD

Alex Rodriguez strained his left hamstring beating out a potential double play in the sixth inning of the New York Yankees' 5-1 win over Minnesota on Monday. He tripped over Twins' first baseman Justin Morneau's ankle and left the game after advancing to second base. Rodriguez, who drove in his 80th run of the season in the first, is scheduled for tests Tuesday.

        SNAPPED

Kansas City beat Seattle 3-2 in 11 innings on Monday to stop the Mariners' eight-game winning streak and make John McLaren a loser in his first game as manager. ... Toronto snapped a four-game losing streak with an 11-7 victory over Oakland.

        SPEAKING

"I'm not as old as I thought I was." -- New York Yankees southpaw Roger Clemens, on giving up one run on two hits to earn his 350th career win in the Yankees' 5-1 win over Minnesota. Clemens retired the final 15 batters he faced in helping the Yankees win for only the third time in 12 games.

        July 4

1984 -- The New York Mets beat the Braves 16-13 in 19 innings at Atlanta. The game went until just before 4 a.m. on July 5, and was followed by a fireworks display for the 10,000 still left in the stands. The Braves tied the score 13-13 on a homer by pitcher Rick Camp in the 18th inning.
