UA: I'm sure the Sox can offer him the 5 year deal he's looking for, but given that he is traded, would most likely have to happen at the end of the season when he is a free agent. You know that the White Sox are going to want a top-tier pitching prospect (either Jon Lester or Clay Buchholz IMO).... and reports are that Buehrle has had interest in pitching for St Louis because he lives in Mizzou .... so it is a risk when the Sox don't really NEED a starter ... although getting him would fortify the starting rotation and bullpen because you could move Tavarez to the pen for another right-handed arm.
The point I'm making is that if you can trade for Buehrle and sign him to a long-term extention to be a part of a rotation that will include Dice and Beckett, it's a great deal. However IMO the extention will not be done at the time of the trade ... so you risk the chance of losing a high level pitching prospect for a three-month rental.
Fenway
i agree fenway. IMO the red sox dont need burlei. their rotation next year could easily be......beckett,dice-k,lester,wakefield,buchholz
I am, I live in Dallas TX currently, and used to live in Connecticut. Hate the Yankees so it is a natural other choice growing up.
Grew up watching the chicken man and when he went to the Yanks he was no longer my favorite player. (Although I did like when he pitched for them, threw nothing but knuckleballs and 1 fb for a shutout inning)

Bryan,
Why in the world are you worried about NEXT year????? The Red Sox may be the favorites to win the World series THIS year. Adding Buehrle would not only strengthen the rotation but would make them extra-tough in the post-season.
Plus, it's hard to assume Schilling will hold up all year and Tavarez strikes me as a head case.

i'm not worried about next year. My only concern is if the sox get burnlee they shouldnt give up too much for him, thats all. to give up the farm then have to resign him is too much IMO.
Tavarez is not that bad. i got no issue with him @ all as the #5 starter. schill will be gone after this year. if the sox can get burleeigh w/o giving up to much then can sign him long term thats fine by me.

same with me. chicken man boggs is great. seeing him in a yankee uniform killed me. hated it.
Chicken man was here coaching this weekend in the Mike Modano charity baseball game. Quite a site to see the pro athlete second to Wilt Chamberlain in amount of girls he shagged!
