  • Burleigh to the bo sox ......

WTF? i hope the sox dont trade for burlee unless they get rid of lugo and 1 minor leaguer. I dont see the need for him. the sox rotation is strong. And too boot the sox farm system is loaded with young talent. Buchholz, lester who could be brought up to fill any needed void. why the need for burleigh?

    any thoughts?

      You mean Mark Buehrle??

How could you not want a solid left starter whos ONLY 28 years old and will give you 250 innings plus a year?

I'm NOT a White Sux fan by ANY means, but if you have to give up a few prospects to get this guy, do it in a heart beat as LONG as you can get him to sign long term at the end of the year.

That's gonna be the sticking point is that he's a 10 and 5 guy and is a free agent at the end of the year.

This is a great move for Boston. Get the hag Schilling out of there!

kb: Clement still on 60-day DL hasn't pitched at all.

Rook: my feelings too ... why give up prospects to theoretically "rent" Buehrle ... the White Sox are not going to allow a club interested in Buehrle to negotiate a contract extention as part of a trade ... so in that regard I don't think it's in the Red Sox' best interest .....

Fenway, what is all the talk about them being able to give him the 5 year deal that he wants at the end of the year? Can Boston fork over some cash in the deal kind of like they did with the Dice-K? I know it will not be as much because of the prospects involved, but I amsure it will be part of the deal.

the prob is he is FA @ the end of the year. If the sox give more than a hack player like lugo and 1 minor leaguer for him they are nuts.

UA: I'm sure the Sox can offer him the 5 year deal he's looking for, but given that he is traded, would most likely have to happen at the end of the season when he is a free agent. You know that the White Sox are going to want a top-tier pitching prospect (either Jon Lester or Clay Buchholz IMO).... and reports are that Buehrle has had interest in pitching for St Louis because he lives in Mizzou .... so it is a risk when the Sox don't really NEED a starter ... although getting him would fortify the starting rotation and bullpen because you could move Tavarez to the pen for another right-handed arm.

The point I'm making is that if you can trade for Buehrle and sign him to a long-term extention to be a part of a rotation that will include Dice and Beckett, it's a great deal. However IMO the extention will not be done at the time of the trade ... so you risk the chance of losing a high level pitching prospect for a three-month rental.
