The Rangers will place the club's ongoing rebuilding squarely in the hands of general manager Jon Daniels.
The Rangers will officially extend Daniels' contract today by one year. With the extension, Daniels' contract runs through 2009. The club will have a conference call to discuss details of the deal at 11 a.m.
"I have always been a believer in J.D. and his management team," Hicks said in a club release. "While we are disappointed with our record [26-43] this season, I know he can take the Rangers to where we want to be, a team that is consistently a contender."
