Tom Glavine (New York Mets) - More impressive than his recent 0-3 record and increasing 4.15 ERA is Glavine's 5-2 record in nine career starts against the Yankees. The veteran southpaw has won his last three starts against the crosstown rivals during which he recorded a 3.50 ERA. A win at Yankee Stadium this afternoon will give the Mets back-to-back upsets over the Yanks and their first two-game win streak in June. The Mets are listed as +122 underdogs and books have set the total at 10 1/2.
Lenny DiNardo (Oakland Athletics) - DiNardo has a 2-2 record but has been impressive on the mound for the A's, allowing just one earned run and 10 hits in 17 1/3 innings. The lefty struck out five in six innings Sunday, a 2-0 road win over the San Francisco Giants. Books list the Athletics as -162 favorites at home tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals. The run total is set at 9.
Cold
Daisuke Matsusaka (Boston Red Sox) - Dice-K has managed to follow a six-game winning streak with a three-game skid. Most recently he gave up two runs, four hits and four walks over six innings in a 5-1 loss to Arizona on Sunday. In his last three outings however, the Red Sox provided little help, scoring just three runs. Today's game will mark the right-hander's first matchup against Barry Bonds and the Giants. Oddsmakers list the BoSox as -194 favorites at Fenway and have set the run total at 9.
Edgar Gonzalez (Arizona Diamondbacks) - The bad news for the D-Backs is that Randy Johnson will miss his start against the Orioles tonight. The worse news is the 2-2 record and 4.73 ERA of their replacement, bullpen pitcher Edgar Gonzalez. Gonzalez hasn't started since May 25 and has allowed five runs in 17 innings in his last three games. The right-hander has never faced the Orioles. Despite the change to the pitching rotation, books list Arizona as -127 road faves and have set the total at 8.
Dave Bush (Milwaukee Brewers) - Right-hander Bush has not recorded a win since May 8 against the Nationals when the starter allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings. He has a 5.66 ERA in six starts since the win and a 4.50 ERA in three starts against tonight's opponent, the Minnesota Twins. He allowed five runs in his last loss to Minny on May 19.
