I went to the Final Four in '82 in NO ( Frosh Jordan over G'town, UH lost to UNC by 5 in semis) and stayed in same hotel ( Montague) as Heels, rode elevator with then relatively-unknown MJ.
And went to FF in The Pit in Albuquerque in '83, where UH was arguably the best team to not win the title ever, after a classic semi win ( 94-81) of Phi Slama Jama over Louisvill'e Drs. of Dunk.
I have to look away every year in the tourney when they show the "alley-oop" heard round the world, and it was not until 3 years ago that I was able to watch a tape of the game. I wish our frosh PG could have hit some 1-and-1s. And Drexler fouled out, with 3 fouls in the 1H, and 1 early in the 2H, rendering him ineffective, and I swear I am being unbiased when I say that 4 of the 5 fouls called on the Glide were amongst the worst ever. And I cried again at the end, even though I knew the outcome. I'll take that pain to the grave. Fortunately it subsides a little every year. You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find, you get what you need.

Till this day, the Drexler/Phi Slamma Jamma Crew, IMO, was the most exilerating/exciting team to watch in NCAA BasketBall......IMO, one of the best ever put together, and well coached....
Combination of street ball, set plays combined.....Totaly exciting.....I used to go to NO to watch the games, and like you saw some good ones there....Hell, we may have sat next to each other......I was about 20-21 years old then.....
Phi Slamma Jamma----will never forget the thrills they gave me and my friends in those days....kapt
Also saw em in Houston...
Another thrill I had for several years was to be able to go to Baton Rouge, 1 hr away, and see the Late Great Pete Maravich......No one today in their 40's can visualize how good he was.....You have to see the tapes he made....What a ball handler, and how he could control a game.....Also a player, that had no help on the court, and IMO, no coaching help either....
Cause LSU gave Press Marqavich the Coaching Job to get his Son Pete over there....
Who is the only player to lead Hi School, College, and NBA in scoring avg for at least one season each.....
PETE MARAVICH
Don't make me go Cajun on your Ass!

So glad you said that. I remember watching Pistol Pete on TV in college, and he averaged 44 a game, w/o the 3-point shot! The best college bb player, ever, bar none. He was my fave, and I tried to model my game after his, but alas, to no avail ( shocking, eh?).You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find, you get what you need.
