  • Opinion on Lebron - comment please

Watching him in the Pistons series and watching last night I came to this conclusion. Lebron is the next coming of Jordan. How can I say that seeing a 4-16 performance from the floor?

Lebron simply took over against Detroit. He shot, rebounded, and took over when his team needed him to. To say he imploded in game 1 last night has some truth to it, but not a lot. The Spurs are the class of the NBA. They have depth, they shoot, and they play the best defense of any team by far.

From what I see, the difference between Jordan's team and Lebron's is simple. Jordan had role players who could hit open shots. He had role players that actually played. They played defense. They shared the ball. The Cavaliers do not have guys that can consistantly hit shots. It is easier to double and triple team Lebron than it was Jordan for this reason alone. Both are great players and in the end, both will be considered 2 of the best there ever were.

While Cleveland thought Larry Hughes was an asnwer to giving Lebron some help, he obviously was not. Ilgauskas is one of the poorest excuses for a big man I have ever seen. Drew Gooden is Cleveland's Dennis Rodman. He is not as good a rebounder, but a better offensive player. Any point guard the Bulls put out there would be heads and tails above Eric Snow in my mind. Just looking at the two teams it is very easy to see why it was just a little easier on Jordan. Not to take anything away from him or make an excuse for Lebron but it is simple to see.

I wish we could switch roles and have Jordan play on this Cavs team in his prime. I think the outcome might be the same. He dominates when he has to, but ultimately gets befuddled by a team who plays Defense like the Spurs do.

Just would like everyone's opinion on this as this is how I see it. Both are great players, probably 2 of the top 5 in the end. Just do not see Lebron winning without some guys who play harder and can hit a few open shots.

the kid is 22 years old......the first half he seemed to be hanging almost near half court and did not seem to assert himself until the 4th quarter.....

i do not know enough about hoops to make any comparison and to me comparing athletes when there are so many variables (teammates, eras, etc) is fruitless.....

Jordan was the greatest and to mention him in the same breath as MJ, Magic, Bird, Kareem is ridiculous.....

Is he on the way to being great? i would prbably say yes, but many careers have taken detours....It takes more than 1 or 2 games in a non-championship series to carve a place in history

      my 2 1/2 cents...

i like Lebron, think he`s great, never have liked most-not all
      of his supporting cast.

they have lots of time in Clev to get-it-right & i think they
      will.

but for now, i cannot put Lebron with/near MJ, not until
he wins several rings...i know i know...he`s very young
and for all we know he may win 4-5-6 and i personally
hope he/Cleveland does. MJ/Magic etc are on one level,
for now. Someday `Bron will hopefully join em. GL Today!

Before we start putting him in the same senence with MJ et al, he needs to do it night-in-night-out, over a period of time. Tony is right, he looks to be on his way, but many have not made it. He had one of the greatest performances in NBA Playoff History against the Pistons, but so did Sleepy Floyd back about 15 yrs ago.

IMO, he is one of the top 3 players in the NBA right now, he has put up numbers at the age of 22 that are better than anyone who has ever played the game, he has made his team immensley better than before he arrived and got his team to play for an NBA Championship series with barely a heartbeat around him. But he has a long way to go to be in the conversation for 'best ever'. LONG way to go.

btw, there are about 17 other threads in the last week addressing this. I am sure Soonerbud will be in shortly to discuss ....

And RIGHT ON CUE here I am Jack......you know its interesting to hear everyones comments today after he was basically shut down in game One of the Finals.
I actually have grown to respect his efforts. At this point I think he is a very good player. Definately in the top 10 in the NBA. But I agree with Jack, he has a long way to go to be evening sniffing the MJ conversation. Will he get there, probably. but like Tony said careers can take detours.
I think and interesting thing is that alot of you have agreed with my comments this week, he has NO supporting cast. The Cavs are a good team in a weak Eastern Conf. They are so mismatched in this Finals its a joke. When MJ was asked this week about Lebron being in the Finals, his response was "it's GREAT for the league". He's right, it is! Unfortunately, I am afraid that the person people will tune into see, will not be the player they saw in Game 5 of the Eastern Conf Finals. This is not going to be good for King James or the Cavs.
One thing I do want to point out though. I am not a Spurs fan at all. But in my conversations about Greatness this week I left one player completely out in my stupidity. TIM DUNCAN, Three rings (soon to be FOUR) in NINE years (thats almost half of them in that period of time and 3 Finals MVP's and I know he has been a league MVP atleast once if not twice.
In a league of Flash and Bling, this guy gets it done night in and night out. I don't know that any team (Jazz?) have ever made the pick and roll look so undefendable. Incredible, but he has a great, deep cast around him as we have already mentioned.
People may tune in to see James, but they are going to see the NBA version of the Patriots. They just WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS and in my humble opinion, that is what it is all about!

I absolutely can not stand the Spurs because they are a boring team. Duncan has to be one of the best picks by that franchise. He gelled immediately out of college and he is a dominant force. In my mind he is the best PF in the game right now. Dirk might be able to hit 3's, but Duncan can defend, pass and that little 15 foot bank shot of his is automatic. It seems it has become so routine for Duncan, 20 pts 10+ rbds and 5 assists, that it hardly gets noticed. He is the heart and soul of that team and I would not put anyone else currently playing in his spot.
