COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Central Michigan @ Michigan
Pick: Central Michigan +33.5
Time: 12:10PM EST
Today the Vegas Sports Insiders look for Central Michigan to cover against the spread as +33.5 underdogs, when they matchup with Michigan in Ann Arbor,MI.
The Wolverines enter the season ranked fourth in the AP Poll, despite some legitemate questions on defense and special teams. What could help the Wolverines meet those lofty national expectations is a soft schedule, which does not have them playing No. 21 Wisconsin or perennial rival Penn State. Michigan finished last season ranked ninth in the country following a 10-3 mark. Head coach Lloyd Carr welcomes back 15 of last year's 24 starters, including quarterback John Navarre, leading rusher Chris Perry, and receiver Braylon Edwards.
Central Michigan has never played Michigan as the Chippewas, but did lose 27-0 in 1931 when the school was known as the Central State Teachers College Bearcats. However, the Chippewas -- coming off a 4-8 campaign -- have a lot of familiarity with the Wolverines. Central Michigan coach Mike DeBord was an assistant for eight seasons with Michigan, and was the offensive coordinator on the Wolverines' 1997 national championship season. Despite what appears to be a huge mismatch, DeBord is confident his team will be ready for Saturday's contest. Central Michigan's hopes will rest in the backfield as junior halfback Terrence Jackson is looking to return to the form of 2001 when he rushed for 1,194 yards.
So why the CENTRAL MICHIGAN? Well, we feel that this line is about a touchdown too high for Michigan to cover. Central Michigan is by no means a threat to win this game, but they should be able to avoid a complete woodshed beating with their solid running game.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Mississippi @ Vanderbilt
Pick: Vanderbilt +13
Time: 12:30 PM EST
Today the National Sports Advisors look for Vanderbilt to cover against the spread as +13 point underdogs, when they welcome Mississippi to Nashville, TN.
Ole Miss entered last season with high expectations, but ended up finishing at a dissapointing 6-6 in the regular season. However, they capped off their season on a high note with a 27-23 win over Nebraska in the MainStay Independence Bowl on December 27th. With several key players coming back this season, the momentum from the end of the 2002 season should help Ole Miss get off to a fast start in 2003. Star quarterbacl Eli Manning leads the returning players, as the younger brother of Peyton threw for 3,401 yards as a junior with 21 touchdowns.
Vanderbilt is coming off of a terrible season in 2002. The Commodores finished up at 2-10 in head coach Bobby Johnson's first season on the sideline. With 12 returning starters coming back, Vandy should be better this season with the added experience. The future looks good for the Vanderbilt offense, as a pair of freshman showed vast promise last year. Rookie quarterback Jay Cutler led the team last season and flashes of brilliance at times. The defense must overcome losses of three 200-plus tacklers from last season, but have upgraded their defensive line with Jovan Haye and Ralph McKenzie.
So why VANDERBILT? Well, despite Mississippi's talent level being much better than Vanderbilt's, we like the Commodores to keep this one close. Ole Miss went just 1-5 on the road last season, with it's only win being a 24-12 win in-state against a terrible Mississippi St team. We look for Vandy to give Ole Miss a good game today.

CFB FREEBIE: CLEMSON It has been an interesting off-season for the Georgia Bulldogs. They finished in the Top-5 after a Sugar Bowl victory over a reeling and mediocre FSU team. Then some of the players showed just how excited they were about getting their SEC Championship rings by selling them on EBAY. They will enter the ’03-’04 season with a pre-season ranking in the Top-5 and return QB David Green on offense and not much else on that side of the ball. He will set up behind a brand new OL and will not be handing off to Musa Smith this season. Seven players are missing on defense due to injury or suspensions and while all are not starters they do include 2 of the top 4 CB. Now they will make the hour and a ½ journey north up I-85 to one of the many Memorial Stadiums where more than 70,000 orange-clad maniacs will be waiting to see their Tigers. CU lost last year between the hedges 31-28 despite having the advantage in 1st downs and total yards. The Tigers bring back 12 starters including 8 on o! ffense including up & coming QB Whitehurst.
