For the third day in a row, I went against the Yankees and got a big underdog line, and for the third day in a row they managed to lose (and win for me).
1* Braves +108
Milwaukee is regressing to the mean. After starting 24-10 against a very soft schedule, they are falling apart aginst the better teams. They've lost 13 of their last 17 and six in a row. How can they be favored?? Smoltz has been awesome for Atlanta. He gave up ZERO RUNS IN THREE OF HIS LAST FIVE STARTS and only two earned runs in the other two. That's a 1.05 ERA the last five starts and that's good enough for me.
1* Rockies -102
My baseball mantra is to "play the hot team." This is especially true if they are an otherwise poor team that's in the middle of a hot streak. The lines NEVER catch up. Colorado has won six in a row and while their pitcher is making his first start in six weeks, St. Louis' Looper is inconsistent and the Cardinals are just bad. Do you know how awful you have to be to be in fifth in the NL Central?
1* Blue Jays +144
This is now beyond absurd. The linemaker keeps posting these huge numbers on the Yankees despite the fact that they keep losing. I posted this game last night immediately after New York's latest loss and while the line has dropped a tad since then, it's still a great play. The wrong team is favored here. The pitching matchup is almost even as Toronto's Marcum has been outstanding since being put in the starting rotation. Pettitte is New York's best pitcher but there's no way a road team that is seven games under .500 should be a -160 favorite.
