Gaudin, a former reliever, is 2-0 with a 3.42 ERA in four starts since losing on April 27 against Tampa Bay. In five career appearances against the White Sox, Gaudin has posted a 1.74 ERA but with no decisions.
The White Sox will counter with Jon Garland (3-2, 3.18), who won his third straight start Thursday, allowing one run in seven innings of a 4-1 victory over the New York Yankees. Garland, who has allowed just five runs in 22 1-3 innings during his winning streak, has gone at least seven innings in his last seven starts and allowed three or fewer runs in all but one of those outings. He is 3-6 with a 4.31 ERA in 11 career starts against the A's and has not defeated them since July 2, 2005.
Garland and Gaudin also squared off on April 10 in Oakland. Gaudin allowed one run in 5 2-3 innings in Oakland's 2-1 win, while Garland threw seven scoreless innings but neither received a decision.
