Clemens is an asshole. Great pitcher, but an asshole.
The flying thing, wear and tear, whatever, I don't buy any of it. Timezones? These guys play at 7:00 or 10:00 most nights. They can sleep until noon if they want to. I've never once heard of a player say that are less of a player b/c they have to travel.

It is too funny to me that because the Rocket is in the media capital of the world, the same conditions he has played under for the last 4 years are now a story. His first year in Houston , he tired badly in September and playoffs, a predictable result of a 40+ power pitcher.
Then after his annual ego-power play in the offseason, they worked out a way to have him come back, but to pitch a shorter season, and the results were eye-popping, as he posted the best ERA numbers of his career.
I honestly believe the decision to have him only go 2/3 of the season is the best if you want to ensure there uis still gas in the tank for October, so he can go his 5 or 6 strong innings.
His #s are phenomenal, for a pitcher of any age, much less a 44 y.o. I fully expect him to be an upper echelon pitcher this year, though probably not at the level of the last 3 years.
And he is a class A Jerk/Tool/AHole/Prick egoamaniacal narcissistic bastard, but who is to say any of us wouldn't be if we were that dominant for that long, with the masses kissing his massive backside and fawning over his every move, telling him how great he is and gegging to please become our savior, as if he is an immortal deity.
And KJ, and all of you other Biggio haters-- wake up. Check the all-time leader board for runs, hits, doubles, at-bats, HBP, games, SB, etc, and see how many times Biggio's name appears, and how high on the list. He is #7 all-time in doubles, just passing the last Triple Crown Winner, Yaz. And take note of the names of the company on all of these lists. You may notice a common trait of all of them. Cooperstown is the place to go if you want to read their profiles, the same place you will see Biggio's 5 years after he retires.
Yes he has lost some of the production of his previous 20 years, but in June or July when he cracks 3000 hits ( how many have done that-- a guaranteed admission to HOF) the world will take notice of the #s he has put up, all in the same uniform. Is he hurting the team? His #s are better than Ensberg, Ausmus, Everett, Lane, etal, and he is supposed to just hang it up? Puh-leeeezeYou can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find, you get what you need.

Sometimes the end do not justify the means. 3000 hits is great and a superlative to his immense work, but to what cost? I don't have the breakdown in front of me, but wasn't there a point that he was batting almost 100 points below his home batting average on the road? I saw too many games where he came up less than clutch in needed situations. The Astros are not built like the Mets and have very little room for error in terms of offense. The aformentioned players have minimal value as well. Ensberg has fallen of the map in terms of hitting. Everett is used for his glove almost to extreme prejuidice of the offense. Same case with Ausmus as he is a pitcher's catcher but that bat is not the most lethal in the lineup. So, given that make up of the roster just described that the Astros management have given to you, do you really want a .234 lead off batter that is way on the decline? I still believe that Burke is your 2nd baseman of the future, but his roll has been diminished and made almost worthless since he is in the minors now.
Getting 3000 is great, but I think the cost is too high. So please, don't come out here and blast me by calling me a hater. As you, I am entitled to my opinion. Often off base, but allowed to my thoughts in this great country we live in. I still can't understand how you get hater out of me making comments of a player on the decline. Taveras, who they shipped out in a trade, is batting .305 with 10 steals, who served as the first bat when in Houston. My point is get to 3000, but be reasonable. Move Biggio back in the lineup and add some speed up top. You have to get on base to score....

First of all, KJ, ,didn't mean to offend, only to defend. Not personal at all. I apologize if taken as a dis. Many don't realize where Biggio, a 6-time AllStar at two different positions, ranks. But...........
Taveras career OBP .334 is not the dream leadoff guy, hence the trade. BTW, who should be the leadoff hitter?
Biggio 2nd all-time ( behind Ricky Henderson, the leader in runs scored and the greatest leadoff hitter) in leadoff HRs, so that is another way to score.
Biggio all-time ranks:
Doubles (7th) 649
Hits (28th) 2966
Runs (16th) I guess he's on base sometime ..1799
HBP (2nd) A dubious achievement, 4 away from the leader
Games (24th) 2746
AB (14th) 10513
Extra Base Hits (29th) 988
BB (58th) 1147 ..again, a few more times on base
PA (11th) 12115
SB (55th) 412
The point is, Clemens arrangement is not new, just new to NY. It worked here with him living 10 minutes from the park. This is slightly different, but its not like he is available to PR or PH.You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find, you get what you need.

We are cool, gramps, as always...love countering with you...
Biggio is a stud when it comes to lead off homers, will give you that...I like Biggio for his tough play and tenacity on the field...as far as Houston, I don't know who would be the lead off batter there...Taveras was not good with obp, I agree there, but he has potential...maybe Taveras at the top with Biggio next...they tried that for a while, right?...
Biggio should get in the Hall the very first time he is eligible...he has immense creditionals, i just don't want to see him play beyond his time...go out on top...
