#1 Detroit Pistons at #5 Chicago Bulls
      Game 4 - Sunday, May 13th, 3:30 p.m. Eastern (ABC)
Detroit's zone defense is baffling the Bulls, destroying their confidence and making them miss easy shots. Chicago is shooting just under 34 percent from the field in the series, and it's very unlikely this team can suddenly forget what has happened in the first three games. EDGE: PISTONS
The Pistons are 13-1 SU in their last 14 opportunities to close out an opponent in the playoffs. They are on a mission to complete a second consecutive playoff sweep and do not seem to care that no team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit. "We just have to take it one game at a time," Detroit guard Richard Hamilton said after Game 3. "We know we need one more win. Our guys are very focused. We've been here before and know what it takes to get the job done. We took our time and got this win." BIG EDGE: PISTONS
Chicago has lost more than three straight games just once all season, and that happened during a seven-game road trip when the team lost the first six before ending the skid with a 106-85 win at New York back in November. EDGE: BULLS
Detroit is 20-7-3 ATS in its last 30 games overall.
Detroit is also 20-7 ATS in its last 27 road games.
Chicago is 27-9 ATS in its last 36 Sunday games.
Road team is 13-6 ATS in the last 19 meetings.
Favorite is 21-10 ATS in the last 31 meetings.

      Head-to-Head Recaps
SECOND-ROUND RESULTS (HOME team in CAPS)

Detroit leads 3-0 SU & ATS
      UNDER 2-1

      5/10/07 - Game 3: Detroit 81, CHICAGO 74 (ATS winner: Detroit +2.5 | UNDER 185)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Bulls simply collapsed in the second half after holding an impressive 44-28 lead at the break. The Pistons scored just 10 points in the second quarter and trailed by as many as 19 but held a dominating 53-30 edge after halftime to earn the victory, moving one game away from their second consecutive playoff sweep.

      5/7/07 - Game 2: DETROIT 108, Chicago 87 (ATS winner: Detroit -5 | OVER 182)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: This was pretty much a carbon copy of Game 1 with a slighly higher pace, as the Pistons got off to a 34-18 lead after the first quarter and coasted the rest of the way. The Bulls pulled within 93-80 in the fourth, but Detroit came right back with a dunk and 3-pointer to stay far enough ahead - a failed cover was never in doubt.

      5/5/07 - Game 1: DETROIT 95, Chicago 69 (ATS winner: Detroit -5 | UNDER 182.5)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Pistons made an early statement in the series opener, holding the Bulls to their lowest point total in playoff history. Detroit led by 13 at halftime and then blew the game open early in the fourth quarter when three different players hit 3-pointers in the first two minutes for a 19-point lead. Chicago made just 33 percent of its shots and was severely outplayed from start to finish, turning the ball over 22 times.

      REMAINING SCHEDULE

      5/13/07 - Game 4: Detroit at CHICAGO (ABC | 3:30 PM ET)
5/15/07 - Game 5: Chicago at DETROIT (TNT | TBD)
5/17/07 - Game 6: Detroit at CHICAGO (ESPN | TBD)
5/21/07 - Game 7: Chicago at DETROIT (TNT | TBD)

      REGULAR-SEASON RESULTS

Chicago wins 3-1 SU & ATS
      OVER 3-1

      4/4/07 - Chicago 106, DETROIT 88 (ATS winner: Chicago +6 | OVER 186)
      3/29/07 - CHICAGO 83, Detroit 81 (ATS winner: Det +4.5 | UNDER 181)
      2/25/07 - DETROIT 95, Chicago 93 (ATS winner: Chicago +6 | OVER 182.5)
      1/6/07 - CHICAGO 106, Detroit 89 (ATS winner: Chicago -4.5 | OVER 189.5)

REGULAR-SEASON SERIES RECAP: The Pistons won just one of the regular-season meetings between the teams, and that was a struggle as they had to rally back from down 16 points at home to win by two. The Bulls actually had a chance to win that meeting too, but Ben Gordon's 3-pointer fell short at the buzzer. Chicago then left a very bad taste in Detroit's mouth with a 106-88 beating at The Palace on April 4th. Of course there is the massive sub-plot of this series involving Bulls center Ben Wallace, who left the Pistons for more money and got the best of his former team during the regular season. Only one of these teams will look like a genius after their playoff matchup though, emerging as the favorite to get to the 2007 NBA Finals.

#4 Utah Jazz at #8 Golden State Warriors
      Game 4 - Sunday, May 13th, 9 p.m. Eastern (TNT)

The only clear advantages Utah has in this series are rebounding and a strong inside game with Carlos Boozer. The Warriors have been outrebounded by a 158-100 margin so far, and that huge disparity still gives the Jazz a solid shot to win Game 4 if they can slow down the tempo. EDGE: JAZZ
Surprisingly, Friday's win in Game 3 was the first time a Golden State victory went OVER in the playoffs. The other four wins for the Warriors in the first round all went UNDER, proving they can play defense just the same. Insiders expect a lower-scoring Game 4 though the home team still has a solid chance to post another convincing victory. EDGE: WARRIORS & UNDER
No team in the playoffs has a bigger advantage at home than the Warriors, who have averaged almost 117 points in winning their last nine there (7-2 ATS) after Friday's Game 3 rout. They have now won all four of their home playoff games by an average of nearly 17 points. BIG EDGE: WARRIORS
Golden State is 23-7-1 ATS in its last 31 games overall.
Utah is 6-1-1 ATS in its last 8 games overall.
Utah is 1-7-1 ATS in its last 9 vs. Pacific Division opponents.
Utah is 4-12 ATS in its last 16 road games.
Favorite is 13-5-4 in the last 21 meetings.
OVER is 13-5 in Utah's last 18 games.
OVER is 16-6 in Golden State's last 22 games.
OVER is 18-8 in the last 26 meetings.

      Head-to-Head Recaps
SECOND-ROUND RESULTS (HOME team in CAPS)

Utah leads 2-1 SU (1-1-1 ATS)
      OVER 3-0

      5/11/07 - Game 4: GOLDEN STATE 125, Utah 105 (ATS winner: GS -6.5 | OVER 216)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Warriors made an NBA record-tying 11 3-pointers in the first half en route to a dominating 70-49 lead at the break, setting an OVER pace for the third game in a row. Golden State ended up scoring a playoff-high 125 points and led by as many as 30 in the second half, as the Jazz simply could not keep up with this one.

      5/9/07 - Game 2: UTAH 127, Golden State 117 OT (ATS winner: Utah -3.5 | OVER 213)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: Utah's Derek Fisher made a dramatic return after missing Game 1 to be with his daughter who was undergoing surgery, outscoring the Warriors 5-4 in overtime as the Jazz took a 2-0 series lead. Fisher entered the game at the end of the third quarter after flying back on a private jet with his wife and daughter, and he sparked a late rally to help his team battle back from a five-point deficit and force OT. The Warriors had gone on a 12-1 run late in the fourth to take the lead, taking advantage of six missed free throws by the Jazz in the process. Another high-scoring affair went OVER in regulation and grew even more in the extra session.

      5/7/07 - Game 1: UTAH 116, Golden State 112 (ATS winner: PUSH -4 | OVER 209)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: Surprisingly, the Jazz came out running and gunning, which almost cost them against the high-scoring Warriors. Utah bolted out to an early 17-7 lead and then fought off a flurry by Golden State to stay ahead 37-35 after the first quarter. The Warriors outscored the Jazz 31-26 to take a 66-63 halftime lead, and then Utah needed a strong comeback in the final minutes to pull off the victory. In fact, Golden State let a cover slip away when Matt Harpring hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to force a push. Otherwise, the fast pace forced an easy OVER from the beginning.

      REMAINING SCHEDULE

5/13/07 - Game 4: Utah at GOLDEN STATE (TNT | 9 PM ET)
5/15/07 - Game 5: Golden State at UTAH (TNT | TBD)
5/17/07 - Game 6: Utah at GOLDEN STATE (ESPN | TBD)
5/20/07 - Game 7: Golden State at UTAH (TBD)

      REGULAR-SEASON RESULTS

Series tied 2-2 SU (Golden State 3-1 ATS)
      UNDER 3-1

      4/9/07 - GOLDEN STATE 126, Utah 102 (ATS winner: GS -5 | OVER 216)
      3/20/07 - UTAH 104, Golden State 100 (ATS winner: GS +7.5 | UNDER 205.5)
      11/25/06 - GOLDEN STATE 91, Utah 78 (ATS winner: GS +1 | UNDER 214)
      11/4/06 - UTAH 106, Golden State 82 (ATS winner: Utah -6 | UNDER 207)

REGULAR-SEASON SERIES RECAP: Only the third meeting had meaning for both teams and included the current roster of the Warriors, who made a midseason trade and had to win every game down the stretch just to get into the playoffs. The host won each time, and both were among the best home teams in the NBA during the regular season. This makes for another exciting series that could go the distance depending on whether or not one loses the momentum gained from the first round.

Detroit Pistons at Chicago Bulls (+2 ½, 182)

How dominant have the Pistons been against the Bulls? Columnist Michael Rosenberg may have expressed it best in Saturday’s Detroit Free Press:

“There have been six halves of basketball in this series. In halves 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6, the Pistons outscored the Bulls by an average of 14 points per half.”

The only half the Bulls won, of course, was the first half in Thursday’s Game 3. Any good their quick start did that night was undone by their second-half collapse, when the Pistons’ zone defense slammed the door on Chicago’s perimeter shooters.

"We missed a lot of open looks - shots we would normally make," Luol Deng told reporters after the game. "But the whole series they've done a good job of challenging our shots and making it difficult."

Deng, Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich combined to take 53 of Chicago’s 83 shots from the floor in Game 3, hitting only 18 of them. As a team, the Bulls went 4-for-25 in the fourth quarter.

The Pistons are undefeated in the playoffs and showed a resolve to finish off the Orlando Magic in the first round that has carried over into the second. The line has shifted five points from Game 3, but it’s not enough to warrant backing the disheartened Bulls.

        Pick: Pistons -2 ½

Utah Jazz at Golden State Warriors (-7, 218 ½)

The Jazz held a big rebounding edge against the Warriors again in Game 3, but Golden State’s outside shooting more than negated any harm brought about by their undersized lineup.

The key for NBA bettors, however, might be Deron Williams’ foul trouble the last two games. Thanks to the fact that Derek Fisher has either been absent or in foul trouble himself, forward Andrei Kirilenko has had to step in at the point in each of the last two games while Williams has sat.

"You know, A.K.'s not a point guard," Williams told the Deseret Morning News. "He can play point. Now and then he can handle the ball, definitely. But ask him to have to control the tempo, have to see who's open, have to know who's hot, who's not - things like that, he's just not used to doing that."

But neither Williams nor Fisher has shown the ability to guard Baron Davis without resorting to fouling him, leading to the gangly 6-foot-9 Russian playing the point. That’s not a great counterpunch against the NBA’s top offense at the moment.

And speaking of points, the Jazz and Warriors have combined to score 228, 228, 226 and 230 points in regulation in their last four meetings. Makes Sunday’s total of 218 ½ points seem pretty reasonable.

        Pick: Warriors -7

Anaheim Ducks at Detroit Red Wings (-140, 4 ½)

The Red Wings continued their success at home in the playoffs Friday night with a 2-1 win over the Ducks in Game 1. Detroit is now 6-1 in home playoff games.

The difference between last night and the Red Wings’ other home games is that they were heavily outshot. Anaheim finished with 32 shots on goal to Detroit’s 19. It was just the second time in the entire playoffs the Red Wings have been outshot. The other time was in Detroit’s series-clinching game against San Jose Sharks, when they were outshot 28-22 in San Jose.

The 32 shots on goal were also the most Detroit has allowed in the entire playoffs – that includes an overtime game and a double overtime game. That also means the 31 saves Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek made on Friday night were the most he’s made in the playoffs.

Anaheim played well enough to win, and was on track to do so if not for a crucial slashing penalty by Ryan Getzlaf with five minutes left in the game. Detroit capitalized with a power play goal and held on in the closing minutes to win Game 1.

Both of the Red Wings’ goals came on the power play. Expect the Ducks to tighten up their penalty kill in Game 2. Anaheim has now allowed just five power play goals in 60 chances in this year’s playoffs.

          Pick: Ducks +120

Detroit hammered Bulls in two games at Palace, 95-69/108-87, as Bulls shot 32.9/34.3% from floor in two bad losses, then Pistons came back from down 16 at half to virtually clinch series. Teams in NBA who lead playoff series 3-0 are 81-0 in series. The home side has led by 13,15,16 at half in series. Question now for the Bulls is whether they're in tank, or will they keep fighting? They shot 33.7% from floor at home; they need to find ways to score.

                      LA Angels at Texas
The Angels go for a sweep in Texas today after beating the Rangers in a pair of 6-3 scores. But after getting strong performances out of starters John Lackey and Bartolo Colon, the Halos should have less confidence in Ervin Santana, who comes in with an 0-4 record and whopping 8.06 ERA on the road this season. The Rangers are forced to go with Mike Wood after a hamstring injury put Kevin Milwood on the DL. While Wood is 0-1 in his two starts, he did pitch well in his one appearance at home (2 earned runs, 5 hits in 6 1/3 innings) against the Yankees on May 3. Trying to salvage a game in the series, the Rangers look like a good underdog pick (+125) against a shaky Santana according to Dunkel, which has Texas favored straight up by 2. Dunkel Pick: Texas (+125). Here are all of today's games.

                        Detroit at Chicago
The Bulls had to feel like they were getting right back into the series after building a 19-point lead at home in Game Three. But the Pistons once again showed how tough they can be, especially on the road, by holding the Bulls to just 30 points total in the second half. The 81-74 win has Detroit up 3-0 in the series and Chicago's confidence, which was brimming after the Miami series, in tatters. Since 2003, the Pistons have won 12 of 13 games when they've had a chance to clinch a series. The lone loss came against San Antonio in Game 7 of the 2005 finals. But this Bulls team, which is shooting just 33.6 percent in the series, hardly resembles the Spurs. Detroit looks like a good pick to close it out and cover the Vegas line (-2 1/2) according to Dunkel, which has the Pistons favored by 8. Dunkel Pick: Detroit (-2 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

                          Anaheim at Detroit
The Ducks battled Detroit even in Game One before the puck bounced off Tomas Homstrom and trickled past Anaheim goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere late in the third period for a 2-1 Red Wings' win. This looks like the way the series is going to be as both teams are getting solid play from the defenses and goalies. The Ducks, which now trail for the first time in the playoffs, certainly have the talent to get right back into it tonight and look like a good underdog pick according to Dunkel, which has Anaheim favored straight up by 1/2 a goal. Dunkel Pick: Anaheim (+1 1/2). Here are all of today's games.
