        Hot Lines

        Monday, May 7

Seattle Mariners at New York Yankees (-160, 11)

If the Mariners’ last two games were any indication, bettors would think Seattle spent all its runs for this four-game series in Friday’s 15-11 slugfest. Since this offensive explosion, the Mariners bats have gone 6-for-59 and totaled only one run (a solo home run from Ben Broussard which spoiled a perfect game for Yankees pitcher Chien-Ming Wang).

“We got two hits yesterday and four today," Mariners manager Mike Hargrove told the Seattle Times. "It's tough to win games only getting four hits."

Seattle showed its frustration on Sunday after New York reliever Scott Proctor threw at Yuniesky Betancourt, which was part of an ugly trail of events stemming from a sketchy fifth-inning collision between the Yankees Josh Phelps and Mariners catcher Kenji Johjima.

        Pick: Yankees -160

Houston Astros at Cincinnati Reds (+125, 8)

The Cleveland Cavaliers had Michael Jordan, Homer Simpson has Ned Flanders, and the Cincinnati Reds have Roy Oswalt.

The Astros ace has been a thorn in Cincy’s side for his entire career, posting an 18-1 record against the Reds with a 2.46 ERA in 21 starts and two relief appearances. Oswalt goes for his fourth straight win over the Reds tonight.

Houston has won four of the five meetings with Cincinnati this season, including a 3-1 victory in Round 1 of today’s pitching matchup last Wednesday. Oswalt went eight innings and allowed only one run on four hits. He has a 4-2 record this season with a 3.06 ERA in seven starts.

        Pick: Astros -133

New York Mets at San Francisco Giants (-104, 9)

The Mets and Giants have provided some baseball drama in their recent meetings. Three of the last four games between these teams have gone into extra innings, leading oddsmakers to set tonight’s opening line at a pick.

While both teams are sitting around -104, San Francisco and new staff ace Barry Zito may have the edge. New York has never faced the man it sought for its own staff this offseason, but according to MLB.com, Zito has been stellar when facing some of the Mets key batters.

New York’s Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Shawn Green and Damion Easley have a collective .174 batting average in 63 at-bats against Zito during their careers. The Giants left-hander is coming off four solid starts in which he held batters to .181 BA and posted a 1.65 ERA.

        Pick: Giants -104
