Monday's list of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend.........

13) Apparently, Roger Clemens is getting a prorated contract for $4.5M per month, and can come and go as he pleases, not exactly embracing the team concept, just anything to win, or so they hope. Can Clemens last five months? We'll see.......

12) Would have enjoyed seeing the team's reaction had they still had Garry Sheffield and Randy Johnson on the roster.

11) By the way, other guy who played in pro/am in Charlotte with Michael Jordan, Eldrick Woods is part-owner of Bobcats and also provided the Mercedes-Benz courtesy cars to every golfer this week. Guess he could afford the greens fees.

10) The main reason Patriots went whole hog after new WRs this spring is that their WRs last year averaged 11.5 yards a reception, 31st in a 32-team NFL (Texans were last).

9) Mike Krukow was saying on a Giants' telecast earlier this week that maple bats are the closest thing to aluminum bats, as hard as they are, and that Barry Bonds once used the same bat for five weeks, even using it in batting practice, which is very unusual. Hard bats apparently hit the ball farther, which makes sense.

8) Don Imus is going to sue CBS over his firing, and there are legal analysts who think he has a good chance of winning, as he had clause in his contract that said he had to be warned in advance of being fired. The lawyers will get rich on this one.

7) Milwaukee Brewers continue to roll; they'll get a good test at Shea Stadium next weekend. How cool would it be to have sausage races at the World Series?

6) Losses don't come much tougher than what the Rangers had Friday night; leading 1-0 late in game, Buffalo tied game with 0:08 left, then scored a power play goal to win, and take control of series. Sabres clinched series today, but in reality, they won the series with their comeback Friday night.

5) Indians are now 7-0 in Sabathia starts, scoring 54 runs.

4) If you have Brett Myers on your fantasy team, hope your league has saves as a category, because he looks good as a closer, and may not go back to starting.

3) I'll say this about Roger Clemens, as greedy as he is; when his son Koby played in this area couple of years ago, for the Tri-City Valley Cats, an Astros farm team, he crossed paths with three people I know, none of whom know each other. All three people had nothing but nice things to say about him.

2) Koby Clemens, in case you're interested, is hitting .237 in the South Atlantic League; he is a 5-11 third baseman who, in 76 ABs, has struck out 22 times. How weird would it be if he suddenly gets traded to the Bronx organization.

1) It was estimated on ESPN that Clemens will get paid a mere $75,000 per pitch this season. What a country.

Bulls turned ball over 22 times in Game 1; their bench missed 27 of 30 shots, which is how you score franchise-low 69 points in playoff game. Teams that lose Game 1 of best-of-7 NBA series by 25+ points are 1-53 in those series, so Chicago has plenty of history to overcome. Detroit held Bulls to 28 second half points in beating Bulls for just second time in five tries this season.

Utah has to be tired after dramatic Game 7 win in Houston, only third time a road team won a Game 7 in series where home team won first six series games. Warriors got some rest after beating Dallas in six games, a monumental upset. Golden State is 20-7 in its last 27 games overall. Home side won all four series games in regular season. Jazz won their three home games vs Houston, by 14,13,12 points.

Sharks outscored Wings 6-2 in first period of games, but after that, Detroit had 8-3 edge in scoring. Red Wings are 4-11 on power play last two games. Sharks can't afford any more miscues like easy goal Nabokov allowed in Game 5.

Cleveland right-hander Fausto Carmona had a brilliant start last time out against Baltimore, picking up a 6-1 victory at Jacobs Field. He allowed six hits and one run over 8 1/3 innings. EDGE: INDIANS
Carmona has bounced back a bit from a miserable 2006 campaign, in which he was 1-10 with a 5.42 ERA. He's 1-2 with a 5.06 ERA in four career appearances against the Orioles. SLIGHT EDGE: ORIOLES
Baltimore starter Steve Trachsel looks to remain perfect at Camden Yards this season, as he's 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA in two starts. EDGE: ORIOLES
Trachsel is a disappointing 2-4 with a 6.32 ERA in six career starts against the Tribe. EDGE: INDIANS
The OVER is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Baltimore.


Seattle Mariners at New York Yankees (ESPN | 7:05 PM)
Matt DeSalvo will become the 10th starter used by New York this season when he makes his major league debut on Monday. DeSalvo went 1-0 with a 1.05 ERA in five starts at Triple-A Scranton this year. SLIGHT EDGE: YANKEES
Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki is hitting .188 on the road this season and mired in a 2-for-22 slump over his last six games. EDGE: YANKEES

Penny has been roughed up a bit by his former club, allowing 10 runs and 15 hits in just 11 innings against them. EDGE: MARLINS
Florida starter Ricky Nolasco grabbed his first victory of the season with a 5-2 win over the New York Mets last time out. He's made just one relief appearance agaist the Dodgers in his career, surrending three runs and three hits over just 1 1/3 innings. SLIGHT EDGE: MARLINS

Houston Astros at Cincinnati Reds (7:10 PM ET)
Few starters in baseball have been more dominant against one team than Roy Oswalt against the Reds. In 23 career apperances, Oswalt is a remarkable 18-1 with a 2.46 ERA - including a 3-1 victory last time out. BIG EDGE: ASTROS
Oswalt hasn't been as sharp on the road this season, posting a 1-1 record with a 7.50 ERA. He has allowed 10 runs and 14 hits over 12 innings. EDGE: REDS
Reds right-hander Kyle Lohse looks to get back on track in Cincinnati after picking up back-to-back losses on the road to the Cardinals and Astros. Cincinnati has won both of his starts at home this season, while he's posted a fantastic 1.35 ERA without gaining a decision. EDGE: REDS
The Astros are 7-1 in Oswalt's last eight road starts.

Washington Nationals at Milwaukee Brewers (8:05 PM ET)
Washington left-hander Matt Chico has found things difficult on the road this year during his rookie campaign, sporting a winless 0-3 record with a 7.62 ERA. BIG EDGE: BREWERS
The Brewers are a perfect 6-0 on the season with left-hander Chris Capuano on the mound. Capuano is a perfect 4-0 on the season with a 2.90 ERA. BIG EDGE: BREWERS

#5 Chicago Bulls at #1 Detroit Pistons
Game 2 - Monday, May 7th, 8 p.m. Eastern (TNT)

The Bulls entered this series with the top-scoring duo in the playoffs, but Ben Gordon was taken out of Game 1 early with two quick fouls. Gordon finished with just seven points on 2-of-9 shooting while Luol Deng led the team with 18. Insiders believe Gordon could have trouble again in Game 2 because he lacks discipline defensively and has a tough assignment in Detroit's Rip Hamilton. SLIGHT EDGE: PISTONS

Chicago was one of the best rebounding teams in the NBA during the regular season and out-rebounded Miami in three of four games in the first round. The Bulls were out-rebounded by the Pistons 46-38 in Game 1 and should do a much better job on the boards in Game 2. EDGE: BULLS

The Pistons showed a lot of focus in Game 1 and proved they are taking this series a lot more seriously than skeptics thought they would. They did not let up at any point and made the Bulls pay for every mistake they made. Whether or not that same focus will carry on throughout the series remains to be seen, but insiders believe this confidence should at least continue at home in Game 2. EDGE: PISTONS

REGULAR-SEASON SERIES RECAP: The Pistons won just one of the regular-season meetings between the teams, and that was a struggle as they had to rally back from down 16 points at home to win by two. The Bulls actually had a chance to win that meeting too, but Ben Gordon's 3-pointer fell short at the buzzer. Chicago then left a very bad taste in Detroit's mouth with a 106-88 beating at The Palace on April 4th. Of course there is the massive sub-plot of this series involving Bulls center Ben Wallace, who left the Pistons for more money and got the best of his former team during the regular season. Only one of these teams will look like a genius after their playoff matchup though, emerging as the favorite to get to the 2007 NBA Finals.

#8 Golden State Warriors at #4 Utah Jazz
Game 1 - Monday, May 7th, 10:30 p.m. Eastern (TNT)


The Warriors are riding a wave of emotion following their first-round upset of Dallas, arguably the biggest upset in NBA playoff history. They no doubt feel like they can beat any team now and have been playing better than anybody in the league over the last month. EDGE: WARRIORS

The Jazz are coming off a grueling seven-game series against Houston and will be playing on just one day of rest. While they are 27-22-1 ATS when playing on one of rest this season, the Warriors are well-rested and 41-24-1 ATS when playing on one day of rest or more. EDGE: WARRIORS

Utah does possess two things Dallas did not in the first round, a strong post presence in Carlos Boozer and strong point guard in Deron Williams. Boozer scored 25 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in the last home meeting while Williams dished out 17 assists. The Warriors did not have to worry about someone of Boozer's stature in the paint against the Mavs, and Golden State's Baron Davis could have his sore hamstring tested against Williams. SLIGHT EDGE: JAZZ

Barry Zito (San Francisco Giants) - Zito is starting to look like the man who the Giants signed to a seven-year, $126 million dollar contract in the offseason. The crafty lefty has put up a stellar 2.11 ERA over his last three outings without allowing a home run. Zito's also carries a low 2.25 ERA during night games and .277 OBP against since April 17. Oddsmakers have Zito's Giants as a -104 home pick 'em tonight against the New York Mets.

Chris Capuano (Milwaukee Brewers) - The Brewers have baseball's best record, and Capuano has been their best starting pitcher. The left-hander is 4-0 on the season with a 2.90 ERA for the Brew Crew, -222 favorites tonight at Miller Park against the Washington Nationals. Capuano's success has been predicated on his ability to keep the ball in the park - he's given up only two dingers in 31 innings pitched on the year.

Cold

Jeff Francis (Colorado Rockies) - Rockies backers are desperately hoping that Francis can regain the form that saw him win 13 games last season. So far, no dice. Francis is 0-3 with a stiff 6.75 ERA in his last three starts, with a brutal .448 OBP against. If allowing nearly every second batter to reach base isn't bad enough, Francis is 0-4 with a 6.98 ERA in night games. Colorado is priced as a +113 underdog under the lights at the new Busch Stadium against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Chuck James (Atlanta Braves) - James has struggled lately, with a 7.47 ERA since mid-April while only picking up only one victory. The biggest problem for the sophmore lefty has been giving up the longball at the wrong time. Despite striking out nearly a batter an inning during the stretch, James has surrendered five homers. Books have the Braves as -123 home favorites tonight against the San Diego Padres.

LA Dodgers at Florida
Brad Penny has been worth every penny to the Dodgers thus far, guiding L.A. to a 5-1 record when he takes the mound, including a 2-0 mark on the road. Penny was sharp in his last outing as he pitched six scoreless innings while giving up only three hits against the Diamondbacks and lowering his ERA to 1.65 on the season. He'll face a Marlin team that was handcuffed by Jake Peavy and the San Diego bullpen yesterday, managing only two Dan Uggla hits. Facing Penny for an encore will be tough and the Dodgers look like a good pick (-120) in this one according to Dunkel, which has L.A. favored straight up by 2. Dunkel Pick: LA Dodgers (-120). Golden State at Utah
The Warriors look to keep the momentum going after knocking off the No. 1 team in the West (Dallas). The Jazz did a good job of protecting the home court against Houston, going a perfect 3-0 straight up and against the spread. Detroit at San Jose
The Sharks have looked shaky after blowing leads in all three of their losses and now face elimination tonight.
