        Wednesday, May 2

New York Yankees at Texas Rangers (+138, 10)

The Rangers are among the worst hitting teams in baseball this season with a .230 batting average, but their bats come alive against left-handed pitching.

Texas is hitting .275 against lefties this season and faces the Yankees’ Andy Pettitte tonight. Pettitte is the undisputed ace of New York’s staff so far, but struggled in his last start against the Red Sox, allowing six hits and five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Yankee bats have also been cold over the last week despite a 10-run outburst against Tampa Bay last night. New York is batting just .232 over its last five games and is averaging just over four runs per game. The Yankees face Robinson Tejeda tonight.

        Pick: Rangers +138

Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves (-114, 9)

The Phillies’ bats are hot, but the Braves bats are hotter. Atlanta has been absolutely raking over the last seven days, hitting a MLB-high seven home runs and hitting for a .315 average. The Braves’ .925 OPS last week is more than 50 points higher than the next highest team.

Philadelphia’s .792 OPS is the ninth highest over the last week, but the Phillies struggle against left-handers and face Atlanta’s Chuck James tonight. Philadelphia is hitting .265 against lefties. Slugger Ryan Howard is even worse – he's batting just .143 against southpaws this season.

Freddy Garcia will start for Philadelphia. He is 1-1 with a 5.65 ERA in three starts this season.

        Pick: Braves -117

Los Angeles Angels at Kansas City Royals (+107, 9)

Ervin Santana’s home-road split speaks for itself. The 24-year-old right-hander is 2-0 with a 1.92 ERA and 0.86 WHIP at home, and 0-3 with a 9.64 ERA and 2.29 WHIP on the road.

Santana is up against a Kansas City team that’s hitting pretty well at home this season, posting a .260 batting average (14th in the majors) and a .753 OPS (13th).

His struggles on the road aren’t limited to this season, either. Santana has a 9-11 career record with a 6.46 ERA away from home, compared to a 19-5 record and a 3.09 ERA at home.

Jorge De La Rosa will pitch for the Royals.

        Pick: Royals +122
