New York second-year starter Jeff Karstens certainly didn't impress in his first start this season against Boston, allowing seven runs and nine hits over 4 1/3 innings. EDGE: RED SOX & OVER
The UNDER is 4-0-2 in Wakefield's last six road starts versus the Yankees.

Florida Marlins at Philadelphia Phillies (7:05 PM ET)

Los Angeles Angels at Chicago White Sox (7:05 PM ET)

Chicago hopes to win its first game of the season with pitcher Jon Garland toeing the rubber, as they've lost all four of his starts so far thsi season. He's 0-1 with a 3.95 ERA this season and 2-6 with a 5.07 ERA in 11 career starts against Los Angeles. EDGE: ANGELS

The Orioles are 8-17 in Bedard's last 25 road starts.

#1 Detroit Pistons at #8 Orlando Magic
      Game 4 - Saturday, April 28th, 3 p.m. Eastern (TNT)

The Pistons have not swept a playoff series since the 1990 NBA Finals, but insiders believe head coach Flip Saunders has challenged them with that very fact and can see how motivated they are to finish the series in four games. Detroit took Orlando's best shot early in the first quarter of Game 3 and responded with authority en route to an easy victory. Insiders expect the same pattern here in Game 4. BIG EDGE: PISTONS
Orlando got a better effort from point guard Jameer Nelson at home in Game 3, but his teammates didn't help him out much. Nelson scored a game-high 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting, but Hedo Turkoglu had his worst game of the series with 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting after averaging 19.5 points in the first two. Grant Hill also struggled and finished with just eight points on poor 2-of-12 shooting. The Pistons seem fine with allowing one player to score a bunch while buckling down on everybody else. EDGE: PISTONS
Detroit is 20-7 ATS in its last 27 road games.
Detroit is 17-6-3 ATS in its last 26 games overall.
Detroit is 9-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Orlando.
Road team is 14-3-3 ATS in the last 20 meetings.

      Head-to-Head Recaps
FIRST-ROUND RESULTS (HOME team in CAPS)

Detroit leads 3-0 SU (1-1-1 ATS)
      OVER 2-1

      4/26/07 - Game 3: Detroit 93, ORLANDO 77 (ATS winner: Detroit -2.5 | UNDER 183.5)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Magic opened the game on an 8-0 run but found themselves tied with the Pistons after the first quarter at 23-23. Orlando would not score more than 19 points in any quarter the rest of the game as Detroit played stifling defense and extended its lead throughout to put the team in prime position for its first playoff sweep since 1990.

      4/23/07 - Game 2: DETROIT 98, Orlando 90 (ATS winner: PUSH -8 | OVER 182.5)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Pistons again followed what is becoming a familiar pattern of doing just enough to hold a comfortable cushion whenever needed. Unfortunately for their backers, that wasn't enough for a cover in Game 2. Detroit got up early on the Magic in the first quarter and then let them back in the game by halftime en route to a slim 47-44 lead. The Pistons then outscored Orlando 24-15 in the third before letting the Magic pull within six with 90 seconds left. Luckily for OVER bettors, this became a free-throw shooting contest down the stretch and Detroit pulled off a push.

      4/21/07 - Game 1: DETROIT 100, Orlando 92 (ATS winner: Orlando +9.5 | OVER 180.5)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: Much like their last regular-season meeting, the Pistons got off to a strong start, but that wasn't enough to cover the spread down the stretch. Detroit led by 12 at the end of the third quarter and 14 at the end of the third but saw the Magic win the fourth quarter 25-19 to earn the ATS victory. Each team also had two quarters of 25 points or more to push the total OVER.

      REGULAR-SEASON RESULTS

      Detroit wins 4-0 SU & 3-0-1 ATS
      OVER/UNDER 2-2

      4/11/07 - DETROIT 104, Orlando 99 (ATS winner: PUSH -5 | OVER 184.5)
      2/23/07 - Detroit 94, ORLANDO 89 (ATS winner: Det -2 | UNDER 185)
      2/21/07 - DETROIT 110, Orlando 88 (ATS winner: Det -7.5 | OVER 182)
      12/8/06 - Detroit 87, ORLANDO 83 (ATS winner: Det +4 | UNDER 186.5)

REGULAR-SEASON SERIES RECAP: The Pistons simply took care of business en route to sweeping the season series. Even the last meeting wasn't close until the fourth quarter, as Detroit built a 13-point lead at the end of the first. Detroit is simply too experienced and matches up well against the Magic at every position except center, with Dwight Howard averaging 21 points and 13.5 rebounds in the four meetings. Still, Howard's best game (26 points, 15 rebounds) came in the most lopsided of the four, so watch for the Pistons to take control of this playoff series early.

      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#2 Cleveland Cavaliers at #7 Washington Wizards
      Game 3 - Saturday, April 28th, 5:30 p.m. Eastern (TNT)

Insiders who have followed the Cavs closely in this series know they have been toying with the Wizards, going on a run whenever they need to en route to taking a 2-0 series lead. Cleveland realizes Game 3 is a critical point and will try to avoid giving Washington any more confidence, especially at home. A win by the Wizards would let them right back in the series and allow them the opportunity to pull even with another victory at home in Game 4. SLIGHT EDGE: CAVS
The Wizards have dropped 10 of their last 12 games since losing All-Star forward Caron Butler to a fractured hand, going 5-6-1 ATS during that stretch. The 102 points they scored in Game 2 was the first time they scored more than 98 in eight games. EDGE: CAVS
The Cavs have won six straight going back to the regular season but have failed to cover three of their last four.

      Head-to-Head Recaps
FIRST-ROUND RESULTS (HOME team in CAPS)

Cleveland leads 2-0 SU (1-1 ATS)
      OVER/UNDER 2-0

      4/25/07 - Game 2: CLEVELAND 109, Washington 102 (ATS winner: Washington +11 | OVER 186)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Cavs had this game well in hand until the fourth quarter, when the Wizards outscored them 39-34. This was bad news for both Cleveland backers and UNDER bettors following a defensive-oriented third quarter which saw Washington score just 15 points and trail 75-63 going into the fourth. The Cavs seemed happy just to come away with a win and without risking further injury to star LeBron James, who played well despite a sprained ankle with 27 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

      4/22/07 - Game 1: CLEVELAND 97, Washington 82 (ATS winner: Cleveland -12.5 | UNDER 188.5)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Wizards surprisingly played even with the Cavs in the second and third quarters, but that wasn't enough to cover the spread or push the game OVER the total. Washington scored just 15 points in the fourth, getting outscored by eight despite Cleveland star LeBron James spraining his ankle in the third. James finished with 23 points while Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored seven straight points to help the Cavs extend their lead to 89-74 with five minutes remaining.

      REGULAR-SEASON RESULTS

Cleveland wins 2-1 SU (Washington 2-0-1 ATS)
      UNDER 2-1

      4/6/07 - Cleveland 99, WASHINGTON 94 (ATS winner: PUSH +5 | UNDER 197.5)
      11/18/06 - WASHINGTON 111, Cleveland 99 (ATS winner: Wash -4 | OVER 196.5)
      11/1/06 - CLEVELAND 97, Washington 94 (ATS winner: Wash +6 | UNDER 194)

REGULAR-SEASON SERIES RECAP: This is a very tough spot for the Wizards, who are severely depleted offensively without All-Stars Caron Butler and Gilbert Arenas. The duo averaged a combined 47.6 points per game, and Arenas scored a game-high 45 points in Washington's only win over the Cavs this season. Antawn Jamison will be counted on as the main offensive option and averaged 21 points against Cleveland in three games. LeBron James averaged nearly 24 points for the Cavs in the season series, and he will likely be too much for the Wizards to handle in what should be a clean sweep.

#3 San Antonio Spurs at #6 Denver Nuggets
      Game 3 - Saturday, April 28th, 8 p.m. Eastern (ESPN)

The Nuggets showed a lot of heart down the stretch in rallying back from a 17-point deficit on the road, something that might have translated to a victory had the game been in Denver. "We showed that we're going to fight," said Carmelo Anthony, who totaled a team-high 26 points. "Whether we're down 50 or we're down two, we're going to fight you until the last whistle blows." With the series tied at 1-1, this comeback should give the Nuggets even more confidence going into Game 3 at home. EDGE: NUGGETS
UNDER is 21-7-1 in the last 29 meetings between the teams

      Head-to-Head Recaps
FIRST-ROUND RESULTS (HOME team in CAPS)

Series tied 1-1 SU & ATS
      UNDER 2-0

      4/25/07 - Game 2: SAN ANTONIO 97, Denver 88 (ATS winner: San Antonio -8.5 | UNDER 193.5)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Nuggets cut a 17-point San Antonio lead to just three points with 45 seconds yet still failed to cover the spread. The Spurs got a jumper from Tim Duncan followed by a pair of free throws by both Michael Finley and Tony Parker to beat the line by half a point. San Antonio played much better defensively to force another UNDER even though Denver scored 28 points in the fourth to make it close.

      4/22/07 - Game 1: Denver 95, SAN ANTONIO 89 (ATS winner: Denver +8.5 | UNDER 197)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Nuggets rode their dynamic duo of Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony to a stunning road victory, jumping out to a 21-16 lead at the end of the first quarter and outscoring them 28-23 in the fourth. Iverson scored just one point in the first but had 11 in the third en route to a game-high 31 while Anthony added 30. The Spurs got to the free-throw line just 10 times compared to 25 for Denver and were outrebounded 44-35, including 28-19 in the first half.

      REGULAR-SEASON RESULTS

San Antonio wins 2-1 SU & ATS
      UNDER 3-0

      4/18/07 - Denver 100, SAN ANTONIO 77 (ATS winner: Denver +5 | UNDER 194.5)
      2/20/07 - SAN ANTONIO 95, Denver 80 (ATS winner: San Antonio -7 | UNDER 202)
      1/10/07 - San Antonio 92, DENVER 83 (ATS winner: San Antonio -5 | UNDER 200)

REGULAR-SEASON SERIES RECAP: The only regular-season meeting when both teams were at full strength came on February 20th. Denver's duo of Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson had a rough shooting night, making a combined 9-of-26 shots and totaling 24 points between them as the Spurs returned home for the first time in more than three weeks. San Antonio outscored the Nuggets 30-10 in the third quarter to take a 31-point lead into the fourth quarter. Neither team played their starters in the season finale, and Anthony missed the first meeting due to his highly-publicized suspension for fighting at Madison Square Garden. Denver averaged 108.5 points in winning 10 of 11 to close out the regular season, but whether or not this team can play with discipline against the defensive-minded Spurs remains to be seen.

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#5 Houston Rockets at #4 Utah Jazz
      Game 4 - Saturday, April 28th, 10:30 p.m. Eastern (ESPN)
You can bet Houston head coach Jeff Van Gundy will find a way to get some of his other players to share the scoring load with Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady, who scored 50 of the team's 67 points in Game 3. The Rockets set an NBA record for having only four players score in a playoff game, with Luther Head, Juwan Howard and Chuck Hayes combining to go 0-for-12 from the field. EDGE: ROCKETS
McGrady is averaging 26 points per game in the series but has yet to go off with a huge scoring effort. Experts believe this could be the game to help bring a 3-1 series lead back to Houston with a chance to close out the Jazz in Game 5. EDGE: ROCKETS
Houston is 3-9 ATS in its last 12 games overall.
Utah is 5-18 ATS in its last 23 games overall.
Houston is 2-7 ATS in the last 9 meetings in Utah.
OVER is 8-3 in Utah's last 11 games overall.
UNDER is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings in Utah.

      Head-to-Head Recaps

FIRST-ROUND RESULTS (HOME team in CAPS)

Houston leads 2-1 SU & ATS
      UNDER 2-1

      4/26/07 - Game 3: UTAH 81, Houston 67 (ATS winner: Utah -4.5 | UNDER 188)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Rockets scored just 25 points in the second half after scoring the same amount in the second quarter alone. That ensured an easy UNDER and sent the Rockets to a franchise-low 67 points in a playoff game. The Jazz shut down everybody other than Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming, who combined for 50 points.

      4/23/07 - Game 2: HOUSTON 98, Utah 90 (ATS winner: Houston -5 | OVER 188)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Rockets didn't wait until the second half to take off in this one. Instead, they rallied back in the second quarter after trailing by nine points at the end of a quarter for the second straight game. Each team failed to score more than 17 points in one of the first two quarters, but the second half turned what looked like a sure UNDER into an OVER. Houston scored 59 points after the break, including 31 in the fourth quarter, the highest total for either team through the first two games.

      4/21/07 - Game 1: HOUSTON 84, Utah 75 (ATS winner: Houston -6.5 | UNDER 188.5)
      Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The story of this game was Houston star Tracy McGrady, who scored just 1 point by halftime but erupted for 16 in the third quarter to turn a 9-point halftime deficit into a 6-point lead going into the fourth quarter. The Rockets outscored Utah 26-11 in the third after trailing 42-33 at the break. A couple missed 3-pointers by the Jazz in the final seconds kept them from covering. Each team also failed to score more than 20 points in two of the four quarters to force the total UNDER.

      REGULAR-SEASON RESULTS

Utah wins 3-1 SU & ATS
      OVER/UNDER 2-2

      4/18/07 - UTAH 101, Houston 91 (ATS winner: Utah -8.5 | UNDER 192.5)
      4/1/07 - Utah 86, HOUSTON 83 (ATS winner: Utah +5.5 | UNDER 189.5)
      1/5/07 - HOUSTON 100, Utah 86 (ATS winner: Houston -3 | OVER 184.5)
      11/1/06 - UTAH 107, Houston 97 (ATS winner: Utah +1.5 | OVER 182.5)

REGULAR-SEASON SERIES RECAP: You can throw out the last meeting between the teams on the last day of the regular season, as Houston stars Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady sat out to rest for the playoffs. Yao also missed Houston's lone win in the season series with a broken leg, so Utah won both meetings when the teams were at full strength. Utah has a slightly better home record, so the home-court edge could be the key in this series for the Rockets even though the Jazz have proven they can win at Houston. This should be one of the most competitve matchups of the first round.

                Kansas City at Seattle
Jeff Weaver's rags to riches story seems to have reverted back to rags. Last year's World Series hero with the Cardinals is a woeful 0-3 with a 13.91 ERA with the Mariners as the team has lost by an average margin of just over eight runs in his three starts. That should help K.C. starter Gil Meche, who has picked up no-decisions in his last three starts despite pitching into the seventh inning of all three and carrying a solid 2.56 ERA on the season. The Royals look like a good road pick (-110) in this one according to Dunkel, which has Kansas City favored by 1. Dunkel Pick: Kansas City (-110). Here are all of today's games.

                  Streaking Pitchers

                  Saturday, Aril 28

                  HOT

Tom Glavine (New York Mets) - Glavine is off to a hot start in his 21st season after winning four of five starts. He hasn't been dominating (allowing three or more runs in four of his starts) but the crafty lefty has kept his pitch count and walk rate down, and has put the Mets' offensive players in positions to do what they do best. New York has scored eight or more runs in each of his wins, with the lone exception a 9-2 loss to Florida ace Dontrelle Willis. Today's opponent won't provide the same challenge. The Washington Nationals, dead last in the National League at 8-15, enter today's game with only a .240 team batting average.

Dontrelle Willis (Florida Marlins) - Willis wasn't at his best in his last start with his pregnant wife in labor in a Miami hospital, but he still came through with the win. Willis will try to become the first five-game winner in the NL today against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Marlins have backed Willis with 38 runs in his five starts and have cashed in on the over in every game.

Tom Gorzelanny (Pittsburgh Pirates) - The Pirates have their eyes on a six-game win streak today thanks in large part to their dominating pitching staff. Gorzelanny has a 3-0 record through four starts. His only loss was a seven-inning, four-hit effort against the St. Louis Cardinals on April 10 in which he didn't allow a run while striking out five. He has allowed only seven total runs in 26 ½ innings this season while limiting opposing batters to a .211 batting average.

                  COLD

Jeff Weaver (Seattle Mariners) - Weaver is still seeking his first victory with his new club, having joined the M's in the offseason. He dropped his first two starts after giving up seven runs in each game, and was pulled after only three innings against the Los Angeles Angels after allowing three runs and seven hits. Just how bad has Weaver been? His three-inning bust against the Angels actually lowered his ERA to 13.91. Seattle manager Mike Hargrove wouldn't answer when asked by The Associated Press if Weaver would be on a short leash this time out. His silence speaks volumes about his confidence in today's starter.

Jerome Williams (Washington Nationals) - Another day, another Nats pitcher left out in the cold. It's almost unfair, but Williams' 0-4 record and 19 runs allowed in 22 innings don't lie. His last outing was by far his worst. He gave up nine earned runs in six innings against Florida and raised his ERA to 7.77. Maybe Washington's offensive struggles have turned a corner after Friday's win in Game 1 of their series with the Mets, but are you willing to bank on it? The win was only the Nationals' second home victory over the Mets in 15 tries.

                    San Antonio at Denver
The Nuggets gave San Antonio all it could handle in the first two games on the road, earning a split and narrowly missing going 2-0 against the spread by a half-point in Game Two after nearly erasing a double-digit deficit even with Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony having off an off night. Returning to Denver should give those two a boost as the Nuggets went 6-1 at the Pepsi Center in April. The Spurs, meanwhile, have lost three of their last four on the road. The Nuggets have certainly proven they can hang with San Antonio and look like a dangerous home underdog (+2) according to Dunkel, which has Denver favored straight up by 5. Dunkel Pick: Denver (+2). Here are all of today's games.

                      San Jose at Detroit
Even on the road, the Sharks were the aggressor in Game One as they blocked 18 shots and had just five giveaways (compared to Detroit's one and 27, respectively) in a 2-0 win. Goalie Evgeni Nabokov (34 saves) has stayed hot with a .922 save percentage in the playoffs and San Jose has shown it feels comfortable away from home after picking up two postseason wins at Nashville to go along with Thursday night's effort. The Sharks look like a good underdog pick in Game Two according to Dunkel, which has the Sharks favored straight up by 1. Dunkel Pick: San Jose (+1 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

Kansas City Royals at Seattle Mariners: Pick Royals +104

Former Mariner Gil Meche pitches today against his old club after signing a five-year $55-million contract with the Royals in the offseason.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Meche told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer on Friday. “It’s going to feel strange, I’ll tell you that much. But going out and pitching at Safeco again, it’s going to be fun.”

Meche has a 1-1 record and a 2.55 earned run average in five starts. Meche credits solving his control problems as the reason for his success. In just over 35 innings, he has walked only seven batters.

The Mariners have won four straight games, but Jeff Weaver could put an end to that streak on his own. The Seattle starter is 0-3 with an embarrassing 13.91 ERA in three starts this season.

Baltimore Orioles at Cleveland Indians: Pick Indians -130

Baltimore has lost five consecutive games and the reason for the club’s troubles is apparent to Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo.

“The problem is, we’re not getting deep enough into games and we’re having to go to our ‘pen a little too much,” Perlozzo told the Washington Post after Friday’s 5-4 loss. “We need a starter to give us seven or eight innings one night and give everyone a little rest.”

Baltimore hasn’t had a starter complete seven or more innings since April 12. The Orioles bullpen started the season well but has blown two leads and a tie in the last three games.

San Francisco Giants at Arizona Diamondbacks: Pick Giants -123

Arizona is desperately trying to find its identity as a team. Manager Bob Melvin used 20 different lineups in the first 22 games this season and the batting order is lacking constancy at the leadoff and cleanup spots.

“We knew we could have some trouble potentially in the 1-spot and in the 4-spot,” Melvin told the East Valley Tribune on Wednesday. “There was no real clear-cut guy to hit in those spots.”

Giants manager Bruce Bochy can relate to Melvin’s batting-order problems. Outside of Barry Bonds, San Francisco doesn't have much of a set batting lineup.

Giants starter Matt Cain has given up only six hits and two runs in his last three starts.

A fever-free Patrik Elias skated during an optional workout for New Jersey on Friday and plans to be in the lineup Saturday night. The Devils' captain missed the team's 5-4 loss to Ottawa on Thursday night. EDGE: DEVILS
In 15 previous playoff series in their franchise history, the Senators have never won the first two games. They have had seven chances, including one against Pittsburgh earlier this year and failed to take a 2-0 lead. BIG EDGE: DEVILS
