'OVER' 39 1/2
We already touched on the fact that Beuerlein, Jackson, and Danny Kanell will be throwing against a depleted Indy defense in the 2nd half tonight. We also have to talk about the athleticism and accuracy exhibited so far this preseason by Indy back-ups Jim Kubiak and James McPherson. So far in two games that duo has completed a combined 30-of-48 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns. Both of these teams have played soft preseason schedules against opposition that has limited offenses. Each squad has taken on Chicago. Denver played Houston while Indy faced a Seattle team that committed five turnovers. The Bears might be the worst team in the NFL right now. I suspect you will see both teams have success through the air in the 2nd half tonight. Now take a look at the production the Broncos have supplied the Mile High Stadium fans in August in recent years. Last year they hung a 31 on Seattle. IN 2001, 31 points against New Orleans and 35 against San Francisco. IN 2000, 26 points against Green Bay and 36 against Dallas. In 1999, 34 points against San Francisco and 38 against Arizona. In their ’98 home preseason finale against Green Bay, the Broncos scored 34 points. Meanwhile Peyton Manning has thrown more touchdown passes than any quarterback in the league the last five years. He threw two last week in the first half against Seattle. I know it’s tough to go ‘OVER’ with Dungy on the sidelines especially in the preseason. But since 2000, the Colts are actually 5-0 ‘OVER’ the total on the preseason road including the 20-18 final at Chicago two weeks ago. I’ll go ‘OVER’ tonight as both defenses finally get tested this month.
