    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cincinnati Reds at Chicago Cubs (1:05 PM ET)
Reds starter Bronson Arroyo picked up a 4-1 loss in his first start of the season against the Cubs, allowing four runs and eight hits over seven innings of work. EDGE: CUBS
Arroyo is 4-4 with a 3.12 ERA in 11 career appearances against the Cubs in his career. EDGE: REDS & UNDER
Chicago starter Rich Hill was 6-3 with a 2.93 ERA after the All-Star break last season in 13 appearances. EDGE: CUBS

Los Angeles Angels at Boston Red Sox (3:55 PM ET)
Los Angeles starter Kelvim Escobar has put together two quality starts to start off the season, going 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA. EDGE: ANGELS
Escobar has held Boston's dynamic duo of David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez in check over his career. Ortiz is just 4-for-24 (.167) against him and Ramirez is 7-for-32 (.219). EDGE: ANGELS & UNDER
Boston starter Curt Schilling bounced back nicely from an Opening Day loss to pick up a 3-2 victory at Texas in his second start. Schilling is 4-1 with a 3.44 ERA in nine appearances against the Angels. EDGE: RED SOX
Schilling was a tremendous 9-1 with a 3.06 ERA in 14 starts at Fenway Park last season and will be pumped for his first start at home this year. EDGE: BOSTON

Houston Astros at Philadelphia Phillies (FOX | 3:55 PM ET)
Houston starter Jason Jennings has had all kinds of trouble against Philadelphia in his career, going 1-3 with a 7.96 ERA in six starts against them in his career. BIG EDGE: PHILLIES
Philadelphia left-hander Cole Hamels has been electric this season, allowing just two earned runs over 13 inning, but hasn't picked up a victory. He will have a great chance against an Astros team that he's allowed just six hits over 15 2/3 innings and struck out 19. EDGE: PHILLIES

San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates (7:05 PM ET)
San Francisco signed Barry Zito to the largest free-agent pitching contract in MLB history, but the left-hander has struggled to a 0-2 record with an 8.18 ERA. EDGE: PIRATES
Zito has is known to be a slow starter, with a 5.20 ERA in April during his career - his highest ERA of any month by more than a run. EDGE: PIRATES
Pittsburgh starter Tony Armas Jr. certainly didn't bounce back from a miserable 2006 in his first start, picking up a 7-5 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. Armas is also just 1-4 with a 5.28 ERA in five lifetime starts against San Francisco. EDGE: GIANTS

New York Yankees at Oakland Athletics (9:05 PM ET)
New York starter Carl Pavano has posted a dismal 29-36 record and 4.58 ERA on the road in his career. EDGE: A'S
Oakland right-hander Joe Blanton probably isn't too happy about facing the Bronx Bombers, posting an 0-2 record and 13.50 ERA in two career starts against them. BIG EDGE: YANKEES

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM ET)
San Diego starter Jake Peavy has owned the Dodgers in his career, tallying a 6-1 record with a 2.40 ERA in 13 career starts. The right-hander is off to a hot start this season, allowing just one run in 13 innings. BIG EDGE: PADRES
Los Angels starter Jason Schmidt struggled in his first start at Dodger Stadium as a member of the home team, going just four innings and allowing four runs on seven hits. He's 11-9 with a 4.78 ERA in 27 career starts against the Padres. EDGE: PADRES
Schmidt has always pitched well at Dodger Stadium despite a 4-5 record, as his 3.10 ERA is one of the best among active pitchers at Chavez Ravine. EDGE: DODGERS

                  Tampa Bay at Minnesota
The Devil Rays picked up a big road win last night as Scott Kazmir outpitched Johan Santana in a 4-2 win at the Metrodome, which snapped Santana's 17-game home winning streak. The D-Rays also kept their streak of hitting a homer in 10 straight games alive and now lead the majors in long balls with 16. They'll have a good chance to add to that total today as they face Sidney Ponson, who was awful in his Twins debut as he gave up eight runs and 10 hits -- including two HRs -- in 5 2/3 innings against the Yankees on Monday. Tampa Bay looks like a decent underdog pick (+150) in this one according to Dunkel, which has the D-Rays favored straight up by 1/2 a run. Dunkel Pick: Tampa Bay (+1 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

                    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cincinnati Reds at Chicago Cubs: Pick Reds +116

Bronson Arroyo clearly enjoys visiting Wrigley Field.

The Reds starting pitcher was dominant in two visits to the historic ballpark last season, twice beating the Cubs on their home turf. In 15 innings of work Arroyo didn’t allow a single earned run and allowed Chicago only 10 hits.

He also fanned 11 Cubs batters while walking only three, winning 2.15 units for Reds backers along the way.

Milwaukee Brewers at St. Louis Cardinals: Pick Cardinals -119

Cardinals starter Kip Wells is finally healthy and showing bettors what he’s capable of on the mound.

Wells battled arm and foot problems last season and made only nine starts, most of them money-losing affairs. But he’s looked great in two starts this year, giving up just six hits in 13 innings pitched while allowing two earned runs and striking out 14.

“(I’ve been getting) the quick outs and the quick innings and those are what give you a chance to pitch deep into games,” Wells told MLB.com of his early-season success. “For the most part (I’m) staying in the strike zone and staying in a rhythm.”

San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates: Pick Pirates +114

Somebody should tell Barry Zito that the regular season has started because the southpaw is still pitching like it’s spring training.

After two starts, Zito has a nasty 8.18 ERA and a 0-2 record, having lost 2.35 units for Giants backers. He was lit up by the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last start, allowing nine hits and eight earned runs in six innings of work.

“I don't need to come out and start from scratch. I just need to make a couple small adjustments,” Zito told reporters after losing to the Dodgers as a -132 favorite on April 8.

It should be no surprise that Zito is struggling at this stage of the season because over his career he is 11-17 with a 5.20 ERA in the month of April.

Los Angeles Angels at Boston Red Sox: Pick Red Sox -149

The Angels have two things going against them today.

The first is they have to start career reliever Hector Carrasco because of an injury to Kelvim Escobar. The second is they have to face Curt Schilling in Boston, a tough task for any major league team.

Schilling was 9-1 with a 3.06 ERA at Fenway Park last season and over his career is 25-8 in Beantown. He also looked awfully good in his most recent appearance, holding the Texas Rangers to four hits and one earned run over seven innings to lead Boston to a 3-2 win as -131 favorites on April 8.

                      NY Rangers at Atlanta
Atlanta let the home ice advantage slip away in Game One as the Thrashers' leading scorers (Marian Hossa, Ilya Kovalchuk and Slava Kozlov) were held without a point. Not so for the Rangers top three scorers -- Jaromir Jagr, Michael Nylander and Martin Straka -- who combined for two goals and four assists in the 4-3 win that marked New York's first postseason victory since 1997. With the Rangers continuing to get solid goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist to go along with the offensive surge, they look like a good underdog pick in Game Two according to Dunkel, which has New York favored straight up by 1. Dunkel Pick: NY Rangers (+1 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

                        Denver at Memphis
The Nuggets may have a letdown after last night's comeback win at New Orleans (107-105). But the Grizzlies don't seem capable of taking advantage, even at home. Memphis has lost six straight overall and hasn't been much better at home, where the Grizzlies have dropped five in a row and 10 of their last 11. The Nuggets have now won five straight road games and eight straight overall. Denver looks like a good pick to cover the Vegas line (-5) in this one according to Dunkel, which has the Nuggets favored by 12 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Denver (-5). Here are all of today's games.
