    Ranking Team Skinny
    1 Atlanta
5-1(+542) The Braves entered the new season with much skepticism about their pitching staff. Could the starters be compeitive past a few innings, how would the bullpen perform and could the setup men and closers finish the job? Well, starters John Smoltz, Tim Hudson and Kyle Davies have combined for a 2.58 earned run average in a total of 25.2 innings pitched. Closer Bob Wickman has already racked up three saves and the team has worked hard cashing in a total amount of +470 (bet $100 every game to make $470).
    2 Arizona
6-2 (+500) It may be premature ranking the Diamondbacks so high, but a 6-2 record with a profit report of +400 makes them a team to watch as both the bettor and fan. Pitching has been solid, with a team ERA of 3.10 and the bats have been swinging in timely fashion, ranking fifth best in the league with 39 runs scored. Games against Cincinnati and Colorado should better explain if Arizona is for real.
    3 L.A. Angels
5-2 (+113) The Angels combine a great ERA (2.00) with a dangerous batting average (.286). This in turn equates to a balanced attack which can bury opponents not ready for the onslaught. Texas and Oakland has succumbed to the attack and now Boston and Cleveland must face the inevitable, a good mix of “O” and “D”. Vladimir Guerrero is hitting .440 with 10 RBIs and three home runs in 25 at bats.
    4 Toronto
4-2 (+32) On a three game winning streak, averaging seven runs per game and hitting the ‘over’ five out of six games has me saying this team looks like a legitimate contender in the American League East. Troy Glaus, Vernon Wells and Reed Johnson have combined to punch in 17 RBIs and once the pitching settles down, the Blue Jays look to have a bright future ahead.
    5 N.Y. Mets
5-2 (+293) Recording a 1.92 ERA (first among the league) and committing only two errors in the field, the Mets began the season with a bang. Couple all that together with a solid 6.7 runs per game and an .804 on base percentage, New York is a team to be reckoned with. Again, it’s too early on to say that the Mets will carry over this momentum, but things are looking good in the Queens neighborhood.
    6 N.Y. Yankees
3-3(-250) Before you jump and say; “this team isn’t the best the American League has to offer at this moment”, wait a second and rethink what’s going on. Most teams playing up north (and around most of the nation) have experienced some terrible weather conditions. This has resulted in inflated pitching numbers due to the cold weather. Hold your horses and wait because the Yanks are going to excel once things settle down. Don’t tell me later on, “I know, you told us so”.
    7 Florida
5-2 (+250) Offense but no defense is the name to the Marlins game, but we all know that "D" wins championships. Batting a league high .311 and getting on base with a .939 percentage has Florida out muscling opponents at the plate. However, the youthful pitching staff has performed well below the norm. A 3.90 ERA with names that you may not be acquainted with has a lot of people asking if the fountain of youth will eventually run dry. Again, the season is in its infancy, so expect that batting average to dip. Let’s wait and see how the arms on the mound fair against quality teams.
    8 San Diego
5-2(+105) Not the most dangerous team at the plate, the Padres have managed to get quality starts and bullpen action out of their arms. A 2.14 ERA and giving up a stingy 15 earned runs, San Diego needs to rely on pitching as its backbone. Starters Jake Peavy and Chris Young have been great in their last two starts (a combined total of a 1.05 ERA) and closer Trevor Hoffman can hold the key when games get tight (two saves).
    9 Boston
4-3 (+25) The Red Sox can only get better in the batter's box and pitching will complement this as the season develops. Starter Curt Schilling will begin to find his comfort zone and Dice-K is already flashing signs of brilliance (maybe the money that was paid to land the Japanese phenom is showing signs of $ worth spent). It really is hard not to throw Boston into this ranking system given the talent and expectations year-in-and-year-out.
    10 Detroit
4-3 (+25) A slow start in all categories, the Tigers will explode in the very near future. While not exceeding in the pitching or hitting game, the star studded talent is there and manager Jim Leyland will get his team in synch. Going 3-1 in its last four is a good sign, but the saying, “It’s just too early to tell” applies directly to the defending AL champs.
