          Friday, April 6

Boston at Texas: pick Red Sox -116

The Red Sox don’t care what everyone else is saying about their bullpen, they think their relievers will be as asset this season, not a liability.

Boston was encouraged by Wednesday’s game with the Kansas City Royals when its bullpen threw four scoreless innings in a 7-1 win as -163 favorites. Kyle Snyder threw 1 1/3 innings for the Sox and told reporters they can expect more of these performances as the season progresses.

“I think we have an outstanding bullpen. We’re talented and we’re fearless,” Snyder told the Boston Herald.

New York Mets at Braves: pick Mets +105

The Mets think Oliver Perez has the stuff to be a 15-game winner and they promise to be patient with the erratic left-hander.

Perez was the Pittsburgh Pirates opening day starter last season before his location went haywire and he was eventually sent to Triple-A. He was then shipped to the Mets at the trade deadline and went on to make a couple of decent postseason starts for his new team.

New York manager Willie Randolph told reporters Perez doesn’t have to worry about losing his spot in the Mets rotation and can instead focus solely on beating the Atlanta Braves.

“I'm assuming (Perez) is going to go out and pitch well,” Randolph told Newsday. “(Perez is not) on any type of trial or anything like that.”

Pittsburgh at Cincinnati: pick Reds -114

Matt Belisle made only two starts last season but one of them was an impressive showing against the Pirates.

The Reds starter took the hill against Pittsburgh on Oct. 1 and threw six shutout innings while allowing five hits and striking out three. Cincinnati lost the game 1-0 at -106, but Belisle left a lasting impression with Reds manager Jerry Narron.

“We really felt last year when he came up … that he'd be better suited (as a starter),” Narron told the Cincinnati Enquirer of Belisle. “He (uses) both sides of the plate extremely well with his fastball (and keeps) the ball down.”

L.A. Dodgers at San Francisco: pick Dodgers -104

Los Angeles isn’t worried about starter Brad Penny’s health, a sentiment echoed by the hard-throwing right-hander.

Penny missed one spring training start with a stiff right shoulder and L.A. feared he wouldn’t be ready for the regular season. But Penny made two more spring appearances after his missed start, easing the Dodgers’ concerns about his shoulder.

“That is the best I've felt,” Penny told reporters. “I can't remember ever feeling better and that's the honest-to-God truth … I am not going to have better stuff than (I have now).”

                        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cleveland Cavaliers at Washington Wizards (ESPN | 8 PM ET)
Cleveland is fighting with Chicago for the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference and gave it up with Thursday's home loss to Miami since the teams are tied and the Bulls own the tie-breaker. The Cavs can't afford a loss here against Washington with Chicago hosting New Jersey tonight. EDGE: CAVS
Insiders believe the Wizards could be playing inspired tonight with leading scorer Gilbert Arenas out for the season with a knee injury and Caron Butler out with a broken hand. This will be an excellent test for head coach Eddie Jordan, who needs to get the most out of his players down the stretch in order to enter the playoffs on a positive note. EDGE: WIZARDS
The Cavaliers are 15-2 ATS in their last 17 Friday games.
Cleveland is 13-4 ATS in its last 17 road games.
Washington is 2-8 ATS in its last 10 home games.
OVER is 6-0 in Cleveland's last six games.
