We had 18 inches of heavy wet snow Wednesday night and as soon as i logged off for the night, out went the power.
It came on about 2 hours ago. It was freezing Thursday morning when we woke up and we thought it would come back on all day but it never did. Let me tell you, when you are buried under 18 inches of snow and the water, heat, electricity and everything goes, it isn't good. We couldn't use the bathroom and it has been 38 degrees in here since Wednesday night. Frozen in place under candlelight really makes you wonder how they did it back in the day. We woke up this morning and there where power trucks (about 4 of them) all over the neighborhood. They said about 1 more hour and boom ... HEAT!!!! It finally came on. I think the dog has a cold and we just threw out everything in the fridge and freezer but other than that, all is good.
I don't remember the last storm like that in April and i think it caught everyone off guard cuz it wasn't predicted to be that bad. Yes ... I am going to be getting a generator soon.
I have no clue who won a game yesterday or what happened in the Masters but thanks to everyone who had concerns.
Wayne, glad you are ok... Do you have a fireplace in house?? Back in ny thats what we survived on when the power went out in the winter.. It would warm about 2 rooms... Let me tell you, a generator is well worth it... We learned after the hurricanes down here it will make life ALOT easier. My pops has one of those underground propane generators.. The second the power goes out down here it immediately comes on.. I hope you guys dont get anymore snow... Yikes
No Doc, no fireplace. My sister lives 2 miles away and she was without power as long as we were but she has a gas fireplace and kept very warm. We couldn't go to her house because she had live wire down across her whole road and it was impassable. Everyone lost power because of the weight of the snow on power lines and trees that hung over them. Usually it is the wind but noot this time. The snow was almost all gone and then boom ... 16-18 inches!!!
Wayne, Just saw this. Glad everything is ok. You should move down here in New Orleans. We NEVER have snow - a hurricane once in a while but no snow !!
Hope its better for you.
Dave
16-18 inches I dont think we get that all year........you live near a lake or something?
I get pissed off when it snows more than 3 inches
Glad all is well now.......another couple of weeks before it melts though.....ill take 30 below w/o snow......I hate that shit
PEACE
Detroit doesn't get snow?????
I live about 3 miles from the Ocean, not near a lake. Sometimes you get coastal storms and alot of times on the coast we are lucky and only get rain while inland gets hammered. This time the whole state got hammered. It usually isn't anything here either Ronny. The snow was all gone and BOOM!
