Saturday's list of 13: Tips for your baseball fantasy draft

                  13) This sounds simple, but know the rules of your league as well as possible; how many categories, is it head-head, is it a keeper league...........be as well prepared as possible.

                  12) Avoid undependable players (Baldelli-Bobby Crosby and Pavano come to mind).

                  11) Don't use your first draft pick on Derek Jeter; the captain is overrated; Michael Young, Miguel Tejada, Jose Reyes are all better options at shortstop.

                  10) Not many guys excel stealing bases, so they become more valuable than they would normally be.

                  9) Keep up on spring injuries; Chone Figgins, for example, is out with two broken fingers. Kenny Rogers is also out.

                  8) Know that Houston, Cincinnati, Philly are hitter's parks, so you avoid pitchers on those teams, but embrace their hitters.

                  7) By same token, Detroit, Seattle, San Diego are the pitcher's parks, so play along accordingly.

                  6) Versatile players save roster spots: Ty Wigginton can be used at four different positions this season.

                  5) Avoid veteran players switching leagues for first time; this isn't as important as it used to be, but it still involves new set of pitchers and ballparks, for most part.

                  4) In keeper leagues, it is fun to track minor leagues and pick out prospects at positions where you need help. Thats how I plucked Russell Martin off Dodgers' roster last year, as soon as LA called him up.

                  3) That said, don't fall in love with too many rookies, lest you find yourself with no depth at the major league level. It is a delicate balance, whether to play for now or the future.

                  2) If it isn't a keeper league, avoid rookies. Whats the point id you can't keep them and watch them improve?

                  1) I think keeper leagues that play head-head are more fun, as you get the know the players on your team, instead of having new guys every season.

Most important is to have fun. Good luck this season.
