    Six-Pack for Thursday

We're looking at major league teams all month, before the season starts. Tonight, its the Chicago White Sox

-- White Sox were 33-41 in last 74 games in 2006, as pitching slumped badly after All-Star break.

-- White Sox got 1,042 innings from starting pichers, most in AL; for second year in row, they had four starters throw 200+ innings.

-- Mark Buehrle was 3-9 in his last sixteen starts; he can be a free agent after this season. He is first White Sox pitcher to make 30+ starts, six years in a row.

-- White Sox hit a major league high 236 home runs in '06.

    -- Juan Uribe's on-base % was .257; he had more home runs (21) than walks (13).

-- White Sox sold out 52 of 81 home games, and had higher TV ratings than crosstown rivals, the Cubs.

Thursday's List of 13: Random thoughts on a spring day

      13) Kobe Bryant couldn't touch shoelaces of Michael Jordan as a player; Jordan was obsessed with winning. Bryant seems obsessed with being known as the best player. After all, 24 is one number higher than 23, no?

      12) Don't believe announcers tnight, when they say the NIT final is "a stepping stone" for next year. South Carolina won NIT last year, and it cost them their best player, who may not have gone to NBA had Gamecocks not had long run in NIT. With Renaldo Balkman this year, Carolina makes the NCAA tournament,. for sure.

      11) No more "paper or plastic?" in San Francisco, as plastic grocery bags were outlawed, due to enviromental concerns.

      10) Lebron James is building a new house 20 miles south of Cleveland; it will have a bowling alley, six-car garage, theater and casino it. Sounds like a fun place.

      9) His new neighbors have already told the kids not to invite Lebron over to shoot hoops, lest he get hurt and everyone get mad at them. People are strange sometimes.

      8) By the way, David Stern must have loved hearing the part about Lebron putting a casino in his house.

      7) Jmaes' new house is going to be 35,440 square feet, which I am told is a very, very large house.

      6) Dallas Mavericks are 60-7 since starting season 0-4.

      5) Allen Iverson had his left elbow drained before Nuggets' loss to Seattle Wednesday.

      4) Curt Schilling faced Twins four times this month; in three of those games, the opposing pitcher was Johan Santana.

      3) In 1952, a guy named Pete Runnels, playing for Senators, became only player in history of baseball to get caught trying to steal 10 times, without ever being successful (0 for 10).

      2) Since 1951, Kevin McReynolds holds record for one year, stealing 21 bases without being caught for the Mets in 1988.

      1) Last Sunday, March 25, was last Sunday in 2007 that won't have either a major league baseball game or an NFL game.

                    NIT Finals

West Virginia has edge in basketball IQ over young Clemson squad that is very athletic but has only one senior; they nearly blew six-point lead in last :10 Tuesday vs Air Force, now face a more athletic, very well-coached West Virginia squad playing fourth game on this court this month (1-1 in two games in Big East tourney) rallting from 17 down to force OT vs Louisville back on March 8. Clemson is still only team in D-I that did not lose a game outside its conference; they're 5-1 in last six games overall. W.Va won Tuesday, despite going only 7-23 from arc.

                          Saturday, March 31

                          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#1 Ohio State vs. #2 Georgetown (6:05 PM ET)
There has not been a center matchup like this in the Final Four since 1985 when Georgetown's Patrick Ewing met Houston's Akeem Olajuwon. The Hoyas are led in the middle by 7-foot-2 center Roy Hibbert while the Buckeyes feature 7-foot freshman phenom Greg Oden, who is considered the top NBA draft prospect in the country. Insiders believe Oden could struggle inside against Hibbert, who prides himself on defense and has much more experience against other players his size. SLIGHT EDGE: GEORGETOWN
Another key individual matchup will be Georgetown's Jeff Green against Ohio State's Ron Lewis, each team's best player so far in the tournament. The 6-foot-4 Lewis has made 12-of-26 shots from 3-point range (46 percent) in the first four games while averaging nearly 22 points. Meanwhile, Green has gone to the free-throw line just 11 times in the entire tourney and taken just six 3-point shots, instead concentrating more on defense. Insiders believe the 6-9 Green will need to become more aggressive in the Final Four and revert back to his MVP form from during the Big East Tournament, when he made 20-of-24 free throws in the last two games en route to the title. SLIGHT EDGE: GEORGETOWN
The Hoyas are 20-6-2 ATS in their last 28 games overall.
The Buckeyes are 1-4 ATS in their last five games versus the Big East.
The UNDER is 5-0 in the Hoyas' last five games versus the Big 10.
The UNDER is 7-1 in the Buckeyes' last eight games versus the Big East.

#1 Florida vs. #2 UCLA (8:45 PM ET)
Florida is on an eight-game winning streak and 20-1 in postseason play the last three years, going 22-1 in March over that time. BIG EDGE: FLORIDA
Florida has won six straight games at the Georgia Dome and is 8-1 in its last three appearances in the building. EDGE: FLORIDA
The Gators' five starters each average in double figures, yet do so by sharing the ball, as all average within 2.4 shots of one another and none average as many as 10 shots. EDGE: FLORIDA
Florida head coach Billy Donovan is one of only nine active coaches to reach three or more Final Fours. EDGE: FLORIDA
UCLA has an all-time winning percentage of .738 in the NCAA Tournament with a record of 93-33. EDGE: UCLA
The Bruins are allowing just 50 points per game over the first four games of the NCAA Tournament, with each game going UNDER the total. EDGE: UNDER
UCLA is 11-1 this year against ranked opponents and 17-2 against teams in the 2007 NCAA Tournament. BIG EDGE: UCLA
Florida defeated UCLA 73-57 in last year's national championship game. EDGE: FLORIDA
The Bruins are 21-6-1 ATS in their last 28 games as underdogs.
The Gators are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 NCAA Tournament games.
The UNDER is 14-3 in the Bruins' last 17 NCAA Tournament games.
The OVER is 4-1 in the Gators' last five NCAA Tournament games.
