  • Green finds car of tomorrow to his liking

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Jeff Green and the car of tomorrow seem to be a solid fit.

Green didn't finish higher than 25th in any of the first four races of 2007, but in the first race of NASCAR's new car, Green rallied to a sixth-place finish in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

"It seemed like they fit us from day one," Green said. "I look forward to Martinsville, I look forward to all of them. We were able to make adjustments to make me better. Sometimes, we can't do that with the other car. Looking forward to each and every one of [the COT races] right now."

Green stood 35th in owner points coming into Bristol, but he carries a lot of confidence into the upcoming races.

"It was just an awesome race," Green said as he hustled out of the track. "We needed it so bad for our team. Everybody was getting down on each other. Harold Holly, I think, is the best crew chief going. He was even getting down on himself because he couldn't make it work like I wanted to. He did it today, and I'm proud of all these guys."

Green got the free pass back on the lead lap on lap 414 and got track position when Holly made a two-tire call under another caution with 15 laps left.

"The only decision was whether we took two or four, and two worked out for us," said Green, who restarted ninth on lap 491. "It got us some good track position. The way it worked out, two tires worked as good as four."

He passed three cars in the final laps but was looking for more.

"We probably had one of the best cars here," Green said. "We lost a lot track position early. We were able to make it up there at the end. But I'd still like to have those other three or four spots."
