The Knicks welcomed surprise signee Randolph Morris to his first NBA practice yesterday. At least those Knicks who were still standing.
Eddy Curry, Steve Francis, Quentin Richardson and David Lee were not on hand to practice with Morris, the former Kentucky big man whom the Knicks signed Friday.
Richardson and Lee are battling injuries, so it wasn't a surprise not to see them; neither is expected to play tonight against Orlando at the Garden. Curry and Francis, though, that was unexpected. Both have picked up a nasty flu bug that is going around the team and could miss the key contest, too. "It's ugly right now," Stephon Marbury said.
The Knicks have lost five of their last six, and coach Isiah Thomas has not been shy about using injuries as an excuse. Add in illness and he might have a point. Including Jamal Crawford (ankle surgery), if Curry and Francis don't get well soon, the Knicks could be without five of their top players tonight.
"We'll see how they feel [today]," Thomas said of Curry and Francis.
