  • Capper's Question

I was just thinking of this, and thought I'd ask you guys here .....

You have gone through all of the games for the day, and have made your final picks. You log on to BC and start going through other capper's thread. You see that a certain capper or cappers are against you on a few of your picks.

The question is, what capper do you dislike going against the most???
"Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant'
is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'"

    Jimmy,

I don't post much, but I play every day and look here everyday. It doesn't bother me if anyone is opposite of me......EXCEPT the ole KAPTAIN.
I do respect his capping ability, but that's not what bothers me about going against him. It's the respect I have for him as a PERSON. I want him to win as much as I want to win.
    Remember the three R's:
Respect for self; Respect for others; and Responsibility for all your actions.

That is a good question Jimmy ... That is why I will not look at thier picks until I post .. If I am wishing luck before I post I never look at the picks ... but I will tell you when someone comes into my thread and says I like NC but I do not like Texas .. 9 out of ten times I will win Texas .. I really feel like saying back to them sometimes "Thanks, I will double up on Texas then" ... hahahaha but it is true ...

Now to answer your question .. There are many .. all depends who is on a roll ... you know as well as I do this game is all about streaks ... when someone is hot I hate going on the other side .. If anyone is cold I can care less if they are opposite ...

Jimmy, I will absolutely avoid looking at picks until i know who i am taking. It's not so much that it will influence me any but if i see 10 people with say Texas, i won't per say think of anyone in particular when capping but i will have the word Texas stuck in my head when. When i post my plays and look around, i'm really not phased by anyone and their picks. I've seen veterans have a horrible day and newbies on a roll. You just never know what kind of a day any capper will have at any given point. I also know quite a few cappers on here and what they are going to take about 80% of the time, so their picks don't affect me one bit. Alot of people either fade the biggest public plays, go with favorites, have teams they love and love to bet on ... Or, always post and go against the boards popular choice. To me that eliminates several cappers in my mind because simply put, they are not capping and who knows what will come of their wagers.

The people i would tend to follow or concern myself with the most are the ones who i feel actually "Cap" the games and have legitimate reasons for their plays. It is hard to tell which ones do it though as most simply post plays and nothing more. You do know/see the ones who have shown more with reasoning though and they are probably the ones who would concern me most. Why? ... Because that's how i cap games as well. Numbers, injuries, atmosphere, momentum and intangibles is what i look for in every game so that when i place a wager, i feel good about it. Other guys who cap the same way and are opposite on a play are the ones that make me wonder the most because it makes me wonder if i missed something. There are very few of those guys here that i know of. I'm sure there are others but they have never shown it when posting.

The thing i find MOST interesting here is when someone has a play or a big play and they are asked why? You watch and you will see 80% of them ignore the question which tells me they don't really have a good reason, 10% will give you a reason to believe it is just a "Homer" play, 5% will make you scratch your head as their reasoning is just not very good and 5% will really convince you that they have done their homework. Personally, i look for that 5%. I used to do a write up with every single CBB play i posted here and it just wore me down time wise. At the time, it was important to me to prove i wasn't capping "From the Hip" and i had reasons. It worked for me and people definately liked it. In time, i decided to leave the write up out and save a ton of time in all my games except for GOY's.

In Short, very few people affect my plays or stress me out when i'm against them. I trust very few here with their picks and that's no disrespect, it's just me. I followed blindly for years and got killed doing it. With that said, if i had to follow someone here it would most likely be Spearit because of the above mentioned and the time he puts into his picks. I respect that bigtime. I also love action and Spearit doesn't give me enough of that so i would probably merge Spark and Kaptains picks together and add all games they matched up on. Why? Because they would both keep my head above water with money in my pocket while gambling and ....... They have been doing this long enough to make me feel very comfortable in what they are doing.

One guy that actually used to scare me when i was against him? It was the only member i can honestly ever say this about and it was Tony Soprano. The dude posted here for one MLB season and he posted 1 game a day. The guy was UNBELIEVEABLE and when i was against him, i usually knew my fate already.

Do you agree though Spark about what happens when most are asked why a play is a big one? Most can't convince themself, let alone anyone else. They certainly don't make me feel better. Not all, but most. Adrenaline and impulse gambling will cost 99% of gamblers their bankroll. It is the biggest downfall for anyone who gambles and gets in trouble.

I hate when I make a play and then realize I'm with everybody and their brother, that usually means it's a loser.

absolutely ... impulse betting will cost you for sure ... I hate when i hear someone say "Kansas played horrible tonight I am pounding them next time they play.. They will bounce back" ..

I also agree with you regarding Spearit .. His logic and in-depth post are great ... I enjoy reading everyone of them ...

                    spearit.....

The guy is so solid with his picks and backs it up with great analysis.

If I'm ever against him...I really have to take a deeper look at the game.

I take all my picks compare them to a precious few and if they are opposite i will tone down my bets or just lay off but I will never go against myself. Sometimes a game i was laying off i will play small if thy are on the same side
                      But NEVER follow LSUFAN HEHE!
TO BET OR NOT TO BET THAT IS THE QUESTION

Kaptains Response to a Very "GOOD" Question

Jimmy----that is one hell of a valid and good question......I wondered my self many a times as to how others picks affect/alter/change ones own picks........

First of all RWALL---thanks for the kind words you threw at the Old Kapt, and it's Ironic, cause one of the people that I respect the most as a person, and their picks, is yourself.........

There are some damn good and solid statements in the above posts.....I cap all my own games, using my own criteria, all current, I don't favor or plays trends at all........IMO, cause a team has beat anotehr 9-10 yrs in a row, has no bearin what so ever on my picking em to do it again....Example (Tex Tech) lost many a games in a row to others, till Bobby Kinght got there....Look at em now....Ditto Kansas St......Cellar Dwellers of the Big 12, everybody stomped em, new Coach, and once again, look at em now.......

I put a lots of emphasis on the Coaches, in a tightly contested game, which is why I went against Okla, and now Indiana U, in the close ones.......Sampson (Coach) has never impressed me with his decision makings.....Good caoches make adjustments, some don't know how...........

                        I utilize the following....
                        Home court advantage
                        Healthy Players
                        Who's Hot
RPI Ratings, (better as season goes along)
Previous meetings, considering if one team had a key player out in the first one...what difference can he make.....
I do use Mejia, Dunkel, and Sports Network as a reference....
                        Gut, starts it off........

I take all these parameters, break em down, and then decide....then I make my picks.......

Have I ever changed a pick, based on others picks.....No....have I ever changed the value, 10* down to 1*....yes.......Have I ever increased it, yes.......Have i ever had a regular play that I dropped because of others...yes.......have I gone against some top cappers here, many a times, and stated it so, such as (going against some good cappers here), (going against the grain here), etc......

Now to answer your question as best as I can.....After I've made my picks, and I some cappers here against me, which ones do I dislike going against the most are........

Recently---KingNeil----130 games in and hitting 68 %....thats hard to feel comfortable about your picks going against that......

Seldom Posters who come in and throw out some good ones....
                        MCP with UnderDogs
                        RWALL in certain Conferences
                        Shorty38 when he speaks...

                        Regulars
Wayne 1218 and Spark are indeed solid as can be, and I don't like when I'm opposite them, totaly dislike it when they're both on the same side, and I'm opposite......

Spearit---is always solid, and when gives a write up, and I see I'm opposite, my stomach churns...he's hard to go against.....

                        BigWeiner is solid and steady....

                        KBSooner is steady...

JBC13 throws out some good solid plays...

There are tons More of em, and I apologize for missing or omitting the reference to you........In essence, this Forum, can hold it's own with any other, and prevail, with high colors........

How do I rate myself......The Old Kaptains sees himself as......

The "Most erratic" capper in this Forum.......I've said it many times, when I'm on a roll, sail with me, when I go Cold, stay at the Dock, and wait for me to pick you up when I warm up......
There's no inbetween with me.........Lots of winners, or lots of losers.........No kissing my sister when I throw em out there.........

I think your question is one that should be answered by all, in their own minds, if not in print.......good thread, now to post the one, I fear going against the most is,

YOU----Jimmy-LSUFAN....and here's my reasons......If I go against you, and Piss you off, you'll just crank up and initiate another one of your famous degrading, intimidating, and embarassing PhotoShop Posts...

Love ya my man Ole Ole Urghhh...kapt
