Duds:
Texas Tech - the committee rewarded Bobby Knight, even though the Big 12’s Kansas State was a more deserving team from the same conference. This selection truly baffles me. The Red Raiders lost to Baylor, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and got blown out by 21 in the Big 12 tourney by Kansas State. And somehow, they got a #10 seed?
Purdue - managed to get a #9 seed, despite losses to Indiana St, Minnesota, Michigan and Iowa. The Boilermakers won exactly two road games all year, at the Big 10’s two weakest teams: Northwestern and Penn State.
Arkansas - had a nice run in the SEC tournament, but this team, too, won only two road games all year. They played three non-conference games against tournament bound foes, losing two of them (Texas and Texas Tech, beating only Oral Roberts).
Snubs
Syracuse - finished 11-7 in the single toughest conference in the country, including wins against Georgetown, Villanova and Marquette. The Orange went 7-3 in their last ten games, and 5-4 on the road including that win against the Golden Eagles, but were penalized for a weak non-conference slate.
Air Force - Air Force slumped down the stretch, losing their last four games; just 4-6 in their last ten. But how do you keep a team out of the tourney that won 23 games including BLOWOUTS against Stanford and Texas Tech, two bubble teams that somehow found their way into the Big Dance.
Mid Majors got screwed. Especailly Drexel. Thought Akron was deserving also.
