    Six-Pack for Friday

I'll be going over all 30 major league teams, giving stats on each of them, as we heads towards the 2007 season......... today, we look at the Houston Astros.

-- If you add a player's on-base, slugging percentage, it is called OPS, a very trendy stat right now. Lance Berkman has a higher career OPS than Mickey Mantle did.

-- Woody Williams was 9-3 against the Astros in the Juice Box, so Astros signed him. Problem is, he won't be pitching against the Astros anymore.

-- Craig Biggio has 2,930 career hits.

-- Astros got rid of Willy Taveras, paid Carlos Lee $100M so they're committed to being more of a power team. Chris Burke's 11 stolen bases were most of any returning Astro.

-- Lee hit 30+ homers the last four years, and now moves to a smaller park, so he should put up major numbers.

-- Adam Everett had only seven errors at short last season.

Friday's List of 13: Summing up a huge day of college hoop:

      13) There are still three games going on as I type this; so far, there have been eight OT games out of 42 that have finished, on a day that saw UCLA, Duke, Syracuse, Maryland all lose.

      12) Wake-Forest-Georgia Tech ended around 1am, as a tying shot fell off rim at end of the second OT for Tech- they lost 114-112 to Wake Forest, in game where Wake was 30-48 from foul line, 16-23 from arc, and still needed two OTs to win.

North Carolina-Florida State game starts about 11 hours after the Wake-Tech game ended, in same arena.

      11) Harvey Hale had 22 points for Wake; he had one point in the first forty minutes of the game.

      10) Early head-turning partial score: Georgetown 22-2 over a banged-up Villanova team. Hoyas only won the game by five.

      9) For the first time since '98, neither Syracuse or UConn is in the Big East semifinals.

      8) Clemson lost six ACC games by five or less points, last of which was this 67-66 loss, on a bogus foul call with :01.5 left, probably most bitter of bunch, but no way do they deserve a shot at the NCAA's. Florida State should get in now, though.

      7) Lorenzo Romar's niece is a cheerleader for the Cal Bears.

      6) Guys that reffed the LSU-Tennessee game refused to call fouls in second half; they were fair for both teams, but I had sound down and had music on watching game- it was totally amazing the contact that was allowed, on both sides. Yes, if I don't like the guys announcing the game, sound is turned off and I listen to music. Much more relaxing.

      5) Air Force still hasn't won a conference tournament game.

      4) Louisville led by 17 in second half, went scoreless for over 8:00, then survived West Virginia in two overtimes. Cardinals play Pitt team that blew them out here LY, leading by around 30, before furious Louisville rally fell just short.

      3) They had clock problems in St Pete; its a hockey arena, so not only did clock malfunction, but when teams scored their 100th point, the scoreboard didn't register three figures.

      2) Boise State was down 14 at half, came back to win, just as USC (down 42-31 at half) did. George Karl's son had another good game for Boise State, which ended a three-game skid.

      1) More of the same Friday; is Texas Tech-Kansas State just a quarterfinal game, or is it a play-in game too? There are four afternoon doubleheaders, 12 evening twinbills, with Patriot League championship game stuffed in the middle somewhere.

Another excellent day, even if it is cold as hell outside.

        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michigan vs. #1 Ohio State (12 PM ET)
The Buckeyes won their second straight Big Ten title this season, going 15-1 in league play. They've tied the school record for victories in a season and have won 14 in a row as they come to Chicago seeking their second conference tournament title. EDGE: OHIO STATE
Michigan will likely need to upset Ohio State to have a show at making the NCAA tournament, which leaves the Buckeyes vulnerable for an upset. EDGE: MICHIGAN
Ohio State has won five straight in the series and the previous two meetings in the Big Ten tournament. EDGE: OHIO STATE

The favorite is 5-1-1 ATS in the last seven meetings.

Florida State vs. #8 North Carolina (12 PM ET)
After starting the season 20-2 and climbing to the top of the rankings, North Carolina slipped towards the end of the season, losing three of five games before beating Duke 86-72 in its regular-season finale Sunday. EDGE: FSU
The Tar Heels beat Florida State 84-58 at home January 7th for their fifth straight win over the Seminoles. North Carolina has won 16 of the last 19 meetings between the teams and is 2-0 against Florida State in the ACC tournament. BIG EDGE: UNC
North Carolina might need to win the ACC Tournament to earn a top seed for the NCAA Tournament. EDGE: UNC
Florida State will be playing desperate this afternoon needing this win to possibly earn an NCAA bid. EDGE: FSU

The Tar Heels are 1-6 ATS in their last seven neutral site games.

Oklahoma vs. #2 Kansas (12:30 PM ET)
While Kansas averaged a margin of victory of 28.8 points in the first six games of its eight-game winning streak, the last two wins have been much closer, including a 67-65 victory over Oklahoma on February 26th. EDGE: KANSAS
The Jayhawks have won the Big 12 tournament twice as a No. 1 seed - in 1997 and '98. EDGE: KANSAS
The Big 12 Tournament isn't being played in Norman, but the Sooners should enjoy an advantage by playing in their home state. Oklahoma's three Big 12 tourney titles are second only to the Jayhawks' four. EDGE: OKLAHOMA

The Sooners are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings.

Purdue vs. Iowa (ESPN | 2:30 PM ET)
The Hawkeyes won the previous meeting in the Big Ten Tournament, 71-52, on March 10, 2005, in Chicago. Purdue is 3-6 in tournament games held in Chicago. EDGE: IOWA
Purdue is the only Big Ten school with a winning record against every other school in the conference. The Boilermakers have won 21 conference championships, more than any other school. EDGE: PURDUE

The Boilermakers are 1-6 ATS in the last seven meetings.
The OVER is 8-1 in the Hawkeyes' last nine games versus the Big 10.

Bucknell vs. Holy Cross (ESPN2 | 4:30 PM ET)
Bucknell has won 14 games in a row, which is currently the longest modern-day winning streak in school history. EDGE: BUCKNELL
Bucknell had won four straight and six of the last seven in the series before Holy Cross ended that streak with a 65-60 win at the Hart Center earlier this season. SLIGHT EDGE: BUCKNELL
Holy Cross is appearing in the championship game for the third straight season and the sixth time in the last seven years. Overall, the Crusaders are making their conference-record ninth appearance in the Patriot League championship game. EDGE: HOLY CROSS

The UNDER is 4-1 in the Crusaders' last five games.

Michigan State vs. #3 Wisconsin (6:40 PM ET)
The Badgers have been unable to contain Michigan State Drew Neitzel this season. The six-foot guard is averaging 25 points on just under 53 percent shooting in two games. EDGE: MICHIGAN STATE
Wisconsin is the No. 2 seed for just the second time in school history, with the other time coming in 2004, which is the only time the Badgers have won the Big Ten tournament title. EDGE: WISCONSIN

Michigan State is 5-0 ATS in its last five neutral site games as an underdog.
The Spartans are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.

#9 Georgetown vs. #20 Notre Dame (7 PM ET)
The only other time Notre Dame has reached the semifinals at the Big East Tournament in 12 appearances came in 2002, when it lost to Connecticut. The Irish, who have won six straight overall, are 4-11 all-time in the event. EDGE: GEORGETOWN
Georgetown has won six league tournament titles - all between 1980-89 - but haven't reached the final since 1996. EDGE: NOTRE DAME

The OVER is 4-0 in the Fighting Irish's last four neutral site games.
The UNDER is 7-0 in the Hoyas' last seven neutral site games.

-- UNLV won last five games (4-1 vs spread); they swept Rams this season, winning 76-59 at Colorado State Jan 30 (+1), then beating Rams here 65-47 six days ago (-10.5). Colorado State is 3-8 in last 11 games, but covered five of last six; they're 5-4 as a MWC underdog away from home. UNLV is 4-5 vs spread as a home favorite, winning last two home games by 18,26 points.

                  Big West (Anaheim)
-- Fullerton needed two OTs to hold off Pacific last night; their best player, Brown, played 48 minutes, could be tired tonight vs Cal Poly team that won, covered last six games, and had last night off. Mustangs lost 99-91 at home vs Fullerton Dec 28 (+3) then beat Titans 90-80 on road March 1 (+7), making 10-24 from arc, shooting 53.7% from floor overall.

-- Cal-Irvine won four of last five games, but they're playing for third night in row, vs fresh Long Beach squad that likes to play fast, and with superior athletes to UCI. 49ers won nine of their last 10 games; they lost 88-84 at Irvine Jan 25 (+1.5), then beat Anteaters 85-80 at home eight days ago (-11).

                  Patriot League final (@Holy Cross)
-- Holy Cross grabbed early double digit lead in both their games vs Bucknell this season, with home side winning twice; Bison lost 65-60 at Holy Cross (they were 10-14 from the line, HC was 19-24), then won at 48-45 home in rematch. After watching last meeting, a Bucknell win, couldn't help but think Holy Cross is the better team. Home court means awful lot at this level.

                      Miami (OH) vs. Toledo
Miami of Ohio opened the MAC tourney with a big win over Ohio (70-51) yesterday. But prior to that game the RedHawks had struggled away from home, losing three of their last four road games at Kent State, Ohio and Bowling Green. The loss to the Golden Flashes came by 16 points. Toledo was more consistent down the stretch, winning its last five overall including two on the road at Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. The Rockets also lost at Kent, but by a more respectable four points. When these two teams met in Toledo on Jan. 27, the Rockets overcame an off night from second-leading scorer Justin Ingram, who went 2-for-15 from the field and 0-for-7 from three-point range, to post a 61-56 win. The Rockets look like a good underdog pick (+1 1/2) according to Dunkel, which has Toledo favored straight up by 2 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Toledo (+1 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

                            LA Lakers at Philadelphia
Kobe Bryant returns from is one-game suspension, which should help the Lakers look better than they did the other night in a 110-90 loss to Milwaukee. But just how much better is not clear as the Lakers were struggling even with Bryant in the lineup. Before the Buck debacle, L.A. had lost three straight and nine of its last 12. Despite Philadelphia's poor overall record, the Sixers are one of the hottest teams in the Eastern Conference right now. Philly has won five straight -- all at home -- including a win over Phoenix on Feb. 28. The Sixers look like a good home underdog pick (+1 1/2) in this one according to Dunkel, which has the Sixers favored straight up by 4. Dunkel Pick: Philadelphia (+1 1/2). Here are all of today's games.
