    Six-Pack for Thursday

I'll be going over all 30 major league teams, giving stats on each of them, as we heads towards the 2007 season......... today, we look at the Toronto Blue Jays

-- Toronto used 14 different DHs last year, who combined for only 16 homers, 68 extra base hits, which is why Frank Thomas is now north of the border.

-- Thomas has knocked in 100+ runs 11 times; since 1920, only five guys have done it more times.

-- Gustavo Chacin got an average of 6.3 runs per game in run support last season.

-- BJ Ryan had 13 saves of more than one inning, the most of major leagues.

-- Over the last two years, when Roy Halladay pitches after a Toronto loss, the Blue Jays are 23-4.

-- Toronto drew 35 home crowds of 30,000+, so interest in the Jays has been revived.

Thursday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but...........

      13) If you saw ESPN's feature on Tennessee Tech head coach Mike Sutton, it is hard to root against Tech in OVC tourney; Sutton continues to recover from a rare nerve disease; he is getting around with a walker now. If they make the NCAA's, and they might, Sutton will be a major story.

      12) Kevin Durant's high school team last year must have been pretty good. That said, when Amare Stoudamire was a senior in high school in Orlando, his team finished 15-15. Go figure.

      11) Clippers' Shaun Livingston tore three of four ligaments in his knee Monday; I can't remember ever hearing of anyone doing that before. It'll take him a year to recover, at least.

      10) Long Beach State's Aaron Nixon reminds me a little bit of George McGinnis, who played for the Pacers in the old ABA, and later with the 76ers in the NBA.

      9) Speaking of the Big West-leading 49ers, coach Reynolds is without a contract for next year. With eight seniors on roster, recruiting isn't being helped by the situation, which logically leads to you to the idea a change might be coming. But why?

      8) Drexel is being touted as an at-large team, but they need to reverse a trend that saw them lose their first game in the CAA tourney in each of the last three seasons. No excuses for the Dragons if that happens this season.

      7) We remember George Mason's run to Final Four last year, but Patriots needed OT to beat Georgia State in first game of CAA tourney; they lose that game, they were an NIT team.

      6) Mike Montgomery, whose son plays for LMU, suggested that while Monday games in the WCC were helpful in way of TV exposure, they hurt attendance at the LA school.

      5) Loyola is a weird team; they won three of four vs Gonzaga and Santa Clara, the two best teams in WCC, but went 2-8 vs the rest of what is a weak WCC. Go figure.

      4) Another amazing Big 12 game Wednesday, as Aggies and Longhorns hooked up in terrific contest. Acie Law knocked down a couple of unbelievably clutch shots to keep Aggies alive in Austin, but Texas prevailed in double overtime.

      3) Before you write off Florida, remember that they a similar slump last February, and did OK in March. Sunday's game vs Kentucky will be interesting, for both sides.

      2) Six of the last nine national champs won their conference tournament, if you care about such things.

      1) Nomination for worst Senior Night ever: Mario Boggan of Oklahoma State leads his team to a win over Kansas St, but in last minute, he headbutts a K-State player, gets tossed out of the game, and is suspended for Saturday's game. Not good.

                            Cleveland at Dallas
As if the Mavericks' offense weren't enough, the defense set a team record for fewest points allowed when it held Minnesota to just 65 in a 26-point win on Tuesday. The win was the 13th straight for Dallas and completed a 10-0 month in February. The Mavs also bring a team-record 20-game home winning streak into tonight's contest. Cleveland hasn't won in Dallas since 2000 -- a span of six games -- and has been outscored by an average of 19 points. That Cavs have also dropped two of their last three while being held to an average of 79.5 points in losses to Miami and Chicago. Dallas looks like a good pick to cover the Vegas line (-9 1/2) according to Dunkel, which has the Mavs favored by 13. Dunkel Pick: Dallas (-9 1/2). Here are all of today's games.

                              USC at Washington
Perhaps unaccustomed to success, the Trojans slipped a week ago by losing two of three, including an upset loss on the road at lower-rated Arizona State. But USC rebounded by beating Stanford and Cal last week setting up tonight's game in which the Trojans will go for their first series sweep of the Huskies in five years. In Saturday's 84-66 win over Cal, the Trojans shot 52.6 percent from the field with Taj Gibson snapping out of a 7-for-27 shooting slump over his previous four games by scoring 18 points. The Huskies have been in a season-long slump for the most part and come in with a four-game losing streak, which will likely keep them from going to the NCAA tournament unless they win the conference tourney. In their last game, the Huskies allowed Oregon to shoot 54.3 percent from the field in a 93-85 loss. The Trojans look like a good underdog pick (+3 1/2) in this one according to Dunkel, which has USC favored straight up by 4. Dunkel Pick: USC (+3 1/2). Here are all of today's games.
