I AM GOING TO PLAY A FEW GAMES IN THE PRESEASON BUT ONLY FOR MAYBE A TOKEN AMOUNT. REGARDLESS OF WHAT PEOPLE MAY ARGUE, IT IS MY OPINION THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PICK WITH ANY CERTAINLY A SPREAD IN AN NFL PRESEASON GAME. THERE ARE SIMPLY TO MANY INTANGIBLES, HOW LONG WILL THE PLAYERS PLAY, THE QB, THE FACT THE GAMES MEANS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING EXCEPT FOR US WHO BET IT, ECT...ECT. SO ALL PRESEASON PLAYS WILL BE OPINION PLAYS.
8* MY TOP PLAY...VERY RARE (23-8 ) LAST YEAR IN FOOTBALL (74%)
6-7* HIGH RATED SELECTION ONLY WHEN ALOT OF GAMES ON THE CARD TO CHOSE FROM (WELL OVER 60%)

ROB BELL (R) vs. BILLY TRABER (L)
vs
909 TAMPA BAY +125 Ov 9,+100
910 CLEVELAND -145 Un 9,-120
Analysis
Yes, the Devil Rays are playing fairly well since the All-Star break, but Cleveland has won 8 of 11 (+$655) and the pitching staff is on fire with a 2.62 ERA. Billy Traber has difficulty on the road (0-5, 7.64 ERA), but he looks like Cy Young at home with a 6-1 record and a 2.51 ERA. The Tribe is 26-18 (+$900) at home vs. righties and should have little difficulty vs. Rob Bell and his 6.29 road ERA.
Projected Score: Tampa Bay 2, Cleveland 6
PLAY *1 UNIT ON CLEVELAND +1.5 +140
TAMPA BAY (2 - 0) at ST LOUIS (0 - 1)
Week 2 Monday, 8/18/2003 8:00 PM
vs
131 TAMPA BAY 37.5
132 ST LOUIS -2.5
Analysis
The Rams won't play Marshall Faulk, Kurt Warner won't see much action, and OT Orlando Pace won't be there, either. The Rams' defense is also protecting people, and they're a little soft in the middle and at safety. If the tackling isn't good, then the Bucs will run a lot, hold onto the ball, eat clock, and keep the Rams from doing any quick-strike stuff thattheir offense is noted for by limiting their possessions. Might be a defensive game in St. Louis. Both teams have strong defenses and Mike Martz admitted this week that he's more focused on evaluating players. That shouldn't be a surprise, either, as the Rams are 0-5 SU/1-4 ATS in their last five preseason games going back to last August. The Bucs are 2-0 SU/ATS so far this preseason. We'll see QBs Brad Johnson, Shaun King and rookie Chris Simms for Tampa Bay, and the Rams will rotate Marc Bulger, Greg Zolman and Scott Covington. Despite a lot of talented offensive names, look for a conservative, defensive clash.
Projected Score: Tampa Bay 10, St. Louis 17
