    Six-Pack for Friday

-- Barack Obama is running for President; he once was sub on a state championship high school hoop team in Hawai'i.

-- In college, he started at Occidental College, same school that produced Jack Kemp, Jim Mora Sr.

-- Craig Robinson, basketball coach at Brown, is Obama's brother-in-law.

-- Speaking of the Ivies, rumor has them finally having post season college hoop tournament. They are only league not to have one.

-- Texas A&M standout Dominique Kirk got scholarship offers from two schools: A&M and Liberty. Now you know part of why Billy Gillespie is such a good coach.

-- How sick are the coaches at Liberty that they missed out on such an outstanding player, after coming so close?

Friday's List of 13: Catching up on some old news..........

      13) If you invested in Bowling Green (+5) on February 13, go on to the next page; you won't want to read this. This is one I have never heard of before.

      12) Bowling Green leads by hoop at Buffalo, Bulls hold for a last shot, which is an airball. One officials signal the game is over, so BG players hapilly go to locker room. Not so fast......

      11) Officials huddle, determine there was shot clock violation, so Bowling Green has ball, up a hoop, with 0:00.6 left. There is one small problem; Bowling Green isn't coming back. From here, it gets fairly bizarre.

      10) After more than one attempt to get Falcons back on floor (all they had to do was send five guys back out to inbound the ball!!!), the officials call a technical on Bowling Green. Kid on Buffalo hits both shots, now the game is tied.

      9) So now Bowling Green has to come back, or they forfeit. Nice coaching job; Dakich's post-game quote was: "We got f***ing screwed." Jails are full of guys saying similar stuff.

      8) Prior to the technical being called, Buffalo was 26-35 from the line, BG 19-27; in the last 5:00.6 of play, Buffalo was 15-20 from line, and won 98-90 in OT, covering the 5-point spread.

      7) If you invested in Bowling Green (I had neither side in the game, just read the story this week), it is a horror, but why in the name of Art Schlichter would you bet on a team that lost 10 of 12 MAC games this season? And on the road?

      6) Dakich left Bowling Green for a week five years ago, to take West Virginia job; he later changed his mind, coming back to the Falcons, but since then, he is 35-53 in MAC games. After this debacle, it is likely he won't be back next season. I mean, how does he look his players in the eye after that?

      Elsewhere in college hoop.............
      5) Heather Cox, one of few sideline reporters we like, drifted into Sideline Reporter Hell this week, interviewing John Brady of LSU, right after Kentucky cut a 16-point to lead to one just before halftime, with the help of a Brady technical.

      4) The perky Cox, for some unknown reasons, asks Brady the following question: "Coach, you had a 16-point lead; how did you let it slide?" Nothing like throwing lighter fluid on a fire.

      3) Brady composes himself, glares at her, says: "Well, thats a great question", then talks for few seconds, and storms off to locker room, before Ms Cox can ask him about the technical, which she tries to, anyway. Not her finest moment.

      2) I'm not sure who was in her earpiece, prompting her to bust Brady's chops, but it was uncalled for. Coaching is emotional as hell, especially when you're having a lousy season, and no one is having a more disappointing year than LSU.

      1) A sideline reporter is there to provide some information, or to set the tone from the floor; her job isn't to provoke a coach especially one who was already on tilt. Brady handled it well, or as well as could be expected; it could have been uglier.

Columbia had a rough trip last weekend with back-to-back losses at Penn and Princeton, while Brown picked up a pair of wins over the Ivy's bottom rung, Harvard and Dartmouth. But when the two teams met in New York on Feb. 10, the Lions dominated, building a 17-point second-half lead before cruising to a 77-68 win behind John Baumann's 21 points. This game looks to be as close as their identical conference records (4-6) making Columbia a good underdog pick (+5) according to Dunkel, which has the Lions favored straight up by 1 1/2. Dallas is 6-1-1 in its last six home games and 9-3-2 in its last 14 games overall. The Ducks have not been playing like a division leader as they've dropped five of their last seven and 10 of 15. In its last game, Anaheim blew two leads en route to a 3-2 loss to Vancouver in overtime. Team captain Scott Niedermayer was whistled for a penalty in the overtime that set up the Canucks' game-winning power play. The Stars won 1-0 in the last meeting between these two teams and look like a good home underdog pick in this one according to Dunkel, which has Dallas favored straight up by 1. Both teams are getting healthy, which has made a difference on the court. New Orleans, which has gotten back Chris Paul and David West, has won seven of its last 10 and 10 of its last 11 at home. Seattle still has the second-worst record in the West, but has gone 3-1 since the return of Rashard Lewis from a hand injury. Lewis, who is averaging 22.8 point and 6.8 rebounds since rejoining the team, scored 34 points in Wednesday's 121-105 win over Memphis. The Sonics have also won their last two on the road (vs. Indiana and Sacramento) after losing a franchise-record 15 straight road games. This game looks to be close, making Seattle a decent underdog pick (+5) according to Dunkel, which has the game even. Dunkel Pick: Seattle (+5). Here are all of today's games.
